SNES Final Fantasy games for PAL consoles.

Just a quick one here.

I'm don't really buy any SNES games usually  but I do want every FF game I can get hold of at the moment.

I could be wrong but it doesn't look like we got any of the SNES releases in Australia so I'm wondering if anybody makes or can make repro carts of these games that will run on a PAL system?

Or am I just destined to have to import an NTSC system?

  • I know the regional lockout for the NTSC super nes was purely mechanical, you just had to grind away a little plastic to allow the famicom cart to fit in the SNES. I would imagine that it would be the same for the PAL system but not sure. Maybe someone else can chime in.
  • Either mod your console, or get an NTSC console. Try www.mmmonkey.co.uk for how to make it region free, it's a fairly simple job if you can solder.
  • I have an NTSC to PAL adapter. there are a few of them on ebay in the UK, sure they must have them in Australia too? You plug an NTSC game in one slot and any PAL game in the other slot. The adapter uses the PAL game to get past the lock out chip and the adapter is PAL snes shape so it fits in the slot.

I got mine for about £3 in an auction.
  • Thanks a lot, seems like it shouldn't be to much of a problem to make this happen.
  • You can get reproductions made, check the repro sticky in the collector's corner forum and send a few emails. One of them will be up for it.
