What is the best way to play PS1 imports?

I've been meaning to figure this out for awhile now. What is the best method to play imports on the PS1?  Should I just get a import console, an import PS2 to really open things up, a cheat device similar to the action replay on the saturn? Help a guy out please.

  • I would just get a chip for my PS1. takes about 5 min to install.
  • I use something called game hunter psx. If your PS1 is an old model with a parallel slot in the back, it plugs right in there. Make sure if you buy one it comes with the spring. It works for imports as well as backups and you should be able to find one really cheap and no soldering is required. Oh year, and its a cheat device too.
  • best is to get a ps2 slim, and get it modded. that way you can play imports for both systems.
  • I agree, get a PS2 modded.

I go with this method. I have a device called "DragonHacker" and it does the same thing. The device goes on the back of the PS1 model on the I/O port (if your console has that, some newer models and the PSone don't have them). Start the console on with the device on, load an american game so it can load the startup info, then when it tells you to swap, change it with a import title or backup. The spring makes the button in the inside lid of the Playstaion "think" it's still closed and you're running 1 disk when you're really using one to load, and one to play. Works simple like your adverage Gameshark  would (and some device even support GameShark codes!)

    OR

Find a PS1 Gameshark or other cheat device for PS2 systems (Very hard to find, let me tell you-- and I can't remember which device it was) and try the above method but just swap the disks. I can't remember if you need the system to see if it's open or not, I don't think you do, so no case mods or anything else is needed, you just have to find that particular GS, Action Reply or Codebreaker (It has to be a certain one too, still can't remember which one it is)

    OR

Use a PS1 emulator. Set it up to your CD/DVD rom drive, go to File> RunCD rom then PRESTO! You could also run some PAL games this one too since PC emulation takes care of the frequency stuff. Bad thing about it: it's emulation. lol

Anyone on here that can do it for me? I know you do some mods for top loaders but do you do PS1 mods? What would that run me?
