    Well not 100% true.

AFA graded atleast 1 copy of a Atari 2600 Star Wars game more than 1 year ago.

I also like how they started the #s to make it look like they graded 72 million games so far,

In other news.. .. To those who thought that the common games not worth a spit would never get graded , well guess again.
  • Well we're not exactly talking Dance Aerobics here now are we.
  • It's probably a bunch of star wars collectors bidding those games up.
  • ...and they all just happen to be in identical condition with the exact same grade of 85? That's not right... I thought they were going to be inspecting the condition of these things very carefully.  Am I missing something here???

Thats exactly what I was thinking!  Maybe grades will be the next variants, try to collect them all.  An 85 will be the common one, but 82 is rare!  image

  • Just send all your games to Gimmick's Grading Service - GGS, and if your lucky I might return your games image

  • I believe they're in plateaued increments of 5 from 70-100. So there won't be any 82's. Check the chart in the auctions. Below a 70 and it's decrements of 10. For an analog, unread undamaged books tend to be in the 90's so they grade from there up in smaller increments (.2) based on color, centering, staples and other factory conditions.

With sealed games they're all unplayed and most are undamaged, so that warrants fewer overall ranks IMO. So an 85 would be analogous to a 9.5-9.7 grade. This is NM+, meaning someone touched it at some point image

There have been a few put up that were different from 85. It would stand to reason that the guy selling these would only send in "the pick of the litter" from among his obviously large collection.
  • yeah the fact they are all 85s doesn't prove anything except that they don't like handin' out 90s
  • Ok, didn't realize its increments of 5 instead of 1, so lots of 85s makes sense. Anyone wanna make a fake 82? image
  • I was considering bidding until I saw $30 shipping to Canada. Sucks...would've liked to be the first guy to OPEN a graded sealed game image

Prices are getting spicy, Final Fantasy is at 499.00 with 1 day left.
  • I think the FF price has more to do with it being a sealed FF than just grading.  All the others are around 100-200 with 12 hours left.
  • yeah there getting a good amount of money. I dont know how much just sealed are worth though. I know Castlevania II is not worth that much sealed though.
  • The question is, will these get their going market rate for a sealed copy, plus the $20-30 it takes to get the service done image These may be in certifiably good shape, but they're by no means exemplary. Perhaps some people will think 85's are as good as it gets, but make no mistake - when you see a Star Wars or something similar up as a 90 or a 95, or god forbit a gem mint one...expect to see the real money. And you know it won't be from VG collectors.
  • If the commons go for a ton, I'll send in all my common sealed games, get them graded, sell them, then buy CIBs and take the leftover and buy DS games.
  • it all depends on what happens in the last five minutes. The prices now are getting high but are not records; not outrageous. But, it will be interesting to see how they do. I could see a couple of them doing well like contra and ff. Hell the contra is almost tempting to me (but I'll pass at the price). If it was a game I wanted to upgrade I could see myself bidding, perhaps.   A nice copy is a nice copy slabbed or not.

I 2nd that, I will also go buy more sealed games and get them graded take the profit and buy more CIBs

but how much does it cost to get them gradded. cause I have heard 20-30$ a peice?

  • VGA has some games in an auction later this year, I read the pdf auction listing, and they had some 90's, so 90 is definitly attainable. I haven't seen anything over that yet. as for grading, I'm not real keen on it. The only thing I'd consider grading is rare sealed stuff, I would never play. Maybe like my color a dinosaur, and that would only be to sell it and get a CIB kinda like Dain said. Really, I don't video games as a slabbable hobby. I could understand it in coins and collectable cards, as they are just there to look at and such. Slabbing them just protected them and gave them a common condition grade. In games, you want to play them, and look at the contents of the boxes. That can't be done with a slab. I always wondered the same about comics, unless people were only collecting for the cover art.

My brain almost exploded...you're talking like you just stepped out of the Time Tunnel, man!

Also +1 for coining the word "slabbable" image

As far as comics, many people do collect just for the cover art, almost as if it were a painting. Also what a lot of people do is get a really high graded copy of a certain comic and have it slabbed and they will also buy a mid-range copy for the purpose of reading the book.

I was trying for the NGD style, of grammatical errors and such, but I'll take engrish, time tunnel, or whatever you want to call it. hooray, for typing to fast on internet forums. image

  • The Final Fantasy just went from $499 to $305, what in the world happened?!
  • probably rejected a bidder they didn't think would pay, or the bid was retracted when they realized they were an IDIOT!
  • The seller of the Castlevania II really can't be happy with any of the prices they got so far.

Really not any prices out of the ordinary, especially given their pretty nice condition.
  • Looks like the ones that ended got about $20-$30 above normal market price, so I guess the verdict is in - no premium for slabbed games (other than the cost of the slabbing itself)!
  • You'd think that these being the first ones would go especially high because of all the hype and newness. Did any of the rarer ones go for significantly more than the cost of grading + the going rate? I'm not too up-to-date on the popular sealed game prices.
  • So all the screaming bloody murder about the grading was for nothing.

Well, at least until the first 95 or 100 gets listed image
