Well, at least until the first 95 or 100 gets listed image

There was a lot of sky-is-falling chicken little crap for sure...  but I think the question of whether or not slabbing will affect the market is far from answered.   People need time to get used to this.  Right now nobody really has a frickin clue what a '85' is so why would they bid like crazy?   You have to get them into collector's hands and they individually have to decide whether they like it or not and are willing to pay more (and for what grade) before any of this amounts to a hill of beans.

The first hulk 181 graded 9.4 sold for $1066 if IIRC.   Wasn't long before they started going for $1500 and then $2k once people figured out that a 9.4 really was that nice.     Right now nobody has a frickin clue what 85 is and whether its that nice, or not, and whether they should even care.

  • Like I said in previous posts, I really don't think grading will have any affect on 95% of games, only the top 5-10% having a high score will prob make that much difference to justify the cost. Then you have to justify the risk of the game being shipped twice and possibly damaging the condition, just doesn't seem worth all the trouble. (I still really hate these BTW)

  • Ouch man, am I seeing right? You're using the kind of security cases they sell ram out of in Staples?

So I can get a game certified, walk in, slip a $5 to the flunkie behind the counter to eject it, then put my lower grade sealed item...or RESEALED item in and it looks 100% legit?

I see a tape seal in the one shot...I hope that's self-voiding...even so, all I need to do is remove it, clean off the "void" residue and nobody's the wiser...

May I will be using your service after all, I'll just get a bunch of hot stuff graded...replace it all and bring it to a local con for quick dishonest sale.

    Maybe.

Looks like a here today gone tomorrow website. At least you have 1 game graded. I assume its one of your own. Not that there would be a conflict of interest with that ...................

As was already said whats with that case? You can take off any security sticker with a heat gun so that case has to be sealed better.

    "Shipping:

The games are placed vertically inside boxes made of very sturdy cardboard.
The games are surrounded by bubble wrap and other protection stuff to
make sure that they arrive without any damage."

This has to be a joke site, right?

  • I wonder how long it will be until we see the next vga games hit ebay.
  • welcome - defectee from cgc boards, right?
  • because i dont follow prices of sealed games i have a question. how much of a price difference is there between what the graded copies sold for and a regular sealed copy that would look to be mint?
  • Very little except for the Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy for sure($100+),The SMB 3 and contra sold for a little higher than normal($50+)
  • Thanks, I might have a new hobby because of it too lol. I've certainly learned a ton from everyone here over the past few days.
  • I was going to bid on Castlevania but I figured why would I want to spend more just because someone gave it a grade and encased it? So I didnt.
  • Well then go bid on my one that's up right now where you won't have to pay for the slabbing.  I grade it an 85, so there, it must be so image
  • Rarebucky, I was already watching some of yours!
  • Someone mentioned the vggrader.com site is opening monday. Is that tommorow's monday or a later date?
  • Yeah, it should be tomorrow.
  • I cant believe the guy got $213 for Dragon Warrior! Hes got any easy way of making money. Sad....
  • yeah it is sad, it really is. I hate this grading stuff.
  • so how do they grade genesis games in the clamshell case? wouldn't these get a much higher grade etc..
  • I think they only grade games encased in a cardboard box. At least I remember someone saying that on this thread. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I would love to send in the couple of Gamecube games I have just to see what they would grade at.
  • the beginning of the end... image
  • Yeah, how are they going to grade those DVD clamshell cases when the time comes? They're all the friggin' same...

But anyway, if this thing really catches on it will be fun to see guys with visions of grandeur ordering 100 copies of the latest low print run game in a futile effort to make a mint by sitting on them for a while. It reminds me of the time I saw a guy buy 500 copies of some Alien vs Predator comic book back in like 1991 - he told me it was going to fetch him more money than Scrooge McDuck hahahahaha....
  • I definately don't like the rising price aspect but that aside I find the service helpful. I've been a gamer since 1986 but have just got into collecting. Its nice to have someone verify the games condition (although subjective of course) and authenticity. I love the holder keeping the games from any damage as well. If this doesn't rise prices too much I'm happy to have it as an option.
  • so your okay with sending your games out, risking the lost in mail option, risking the service screwing something up, then having to pay to get it in a little case and what some group of noob NES collectors think the rating is, and then waiting to get it back? Not being able to play the game unless you break the case open etc..

sounds like a annoyance to me.
  • I say to each his own, if you want to ship your games out and get them graded, go right ahead, it's your cup of soup. But as everyone was saying I think this will have very little effect on CIB's and loose carts. If anything they will go down except for the higher priced ones. Sealed collecting is such a nich market, all these VGA graded games are going to do is make it harder to get sealed games for a decent price. Plain and simple.
