Collecting Mistakes you made before you were a collector

  • The text in OOT is so damned slow I can't sit through the opening anymore.
Nintendo needs to realize that at least some of their audience can read faster than a 2nd grade level. I read 1400 wpm in grade 8 for christs sakes! God I hate the typewriter effect.

I prefer WindWaker to OOT, the camera and Z targetting works so much better in WW.
Hell, the camera in Twilight Princess controls worse than WW. They mapped the Y axis of the analog stick to the map/inventory for some stupid reason.

My favorite Zelda game is Link the Past.

Four swords on Cube was fricken awesome. Especially that Tetras Trackers game that they removed from the english version cause they claimed it wasnt fun enough. I imported the japanese version and loved it. Nintendo just didnt want to translate the voice acting
I absolutely loved the GBA connectivity, best part about Gamecube. I wish Sony used PSP more for that kind of thing.

I absolutely hate the 2 DS games, it's like using the handwriting recognition on an Apple Newton as a game controller. It's so horrible, it made someone I know with cerebral palsy cry.

Nintendo claims they didnt voice the games cause it would ruin the connection that you are Link.
You know what ruined that "connection"? When they told me Link in LttP was a little kid.

I'm someone who cries at a lot of anime/games. Twilight Princess had what I guess was supposed to be an emotional moment, but it was ruined cause it was just text. I've played better PS1 and PSP games. Rhapsody and Lunar 2 on PS1 made me cry, FF7 Crisis Core on PSP made me cry a storm despite knowing the ending a decade in advance. Nintendo cant even do immersion as well as a 2 generation old console or a fricken handheld.

When I told a friend who knew how much of a crybaby I am, he said it was like someone stabbing me with a knife, and me not bleeding cause he didnt try hard enough.

i agree with the slow text, but i never played zelda games for the immersion really.. more for the gameplay and setting
and i did really love the gameplay in the DS zelda's, the first a bit more then the second
  • Storytelling is part of immersion, if they cant make me care then they just didnt care enough to try.

Conversely, if they can make me care, that makes the game that much better.

  • If Nintendo gave Link a voice-over it would most surely suck as everyone have their own expectations about how he sounds.

That boat sailed when they made him a kid, and gave him voiced grunts.

Link doesn't need voice acting, since he never speaks anyway. But everyone else could get voiced
  • Don't remind me of my stupid mistakes
First and worst is I used to sell games. I sold like 50-75 to EB Games once, and what did I get? 1 gamecube game. Totally not worth it now.

Also I regret letting certain people borrow my games. Bye-bye Phantasy Star Online (rebought, took forever to find though), Ghost in the Shell, a couple game cases. (How do you lose something like that anyway?)

There are a few games that I threw the cases out for, mainly gameboy/gameboy colour games and a few PS1 games.

  • i never had a console as a kid, so i couldn't borrow them out to friends

I really should have kept the game I borrowed from him so I wouldn't have completely lost out on that.
  • old topic bumping because of the interesting topic!

  • I recently did an old-interesting-topic bumping myself...

Anyway, my story starts back in 2001, shortly after the PS2 was released in the US. I lived with my parents (Junior High), and they thought it was a nice idea to surprise me with a new PS2. When I got home from school, I went to my room only to see an awesome gaming machine sitting atop my dresser, complete with NBA Live 2001 and a vertical stand.

I found out seconds later that my parents traded in my PS1 with about 20-30 games to get the PS2.

I remember having games like Monster Rancher, Warzone 2100, Blood Omen Legacy of Kain, Reel Fishing, Gran Turismo, Medal of Honor, some other random racing and sports games, etc. Maybe not worth much now, but it would be nice to still have those around.

I know this wasn't a mistake I did personally, but it was still a moment that I wish would've never happened as a collector.

  • hahah that went from WOW! to Wow... right?

  • selling my dreamcast and ps1 games, i had tons of them but because i got burgled and they took my consoles and run i only had the games left so out of desperation i took all my games to gamestation (bad mistake i know) and brought a n64 and a couple of games, they must have made a fortune out of me, i really wish i kept those games! i got 90% of those games back though and i never go to gamestation with any older games ever again.

  • Selling ICO and F1 2002 (both press editions) for 8 euros a piece :?

But you all know that by now.

I sold nearly all my PS2 games, but tbh, none were rare. They were all popular/mainstream games such as FIFA, GT3, Championship Manager etc. so I doubt they will ever become rare. Same for PS3 games.

Hopefully, what I just said won't come back to haunt me.

Btw, I'm not a collector. Just found out that I had two 'gems' I sold for dirt cheap.

  • Not buying Ultimate Pleasure Pack for $10

  • Dear playstationcollecting.com,

I have a confession to make; please listen. Back in the late 90s, early 00s, I was a videogame vandal. It was my greatest pleasure in life to scrawl all over peoples' games in big, thick permanent ink. I made my marks, oh yes, I made my marks. I soiled manuals, discs, inlays and boxes.

I would cackle with lunatic lust for destruction as I halved, quartered the collector's values of the games of thousands. I would smell that inky aroma from the manual, the faintly chemical tang from all that plastic. I would take in the breathtaking craftsmanship of that artwork, the clean lines and angles of the finished products. The gentle, almost erotic curve of those naked, vulnerable CDs. And then I'd go to work with my pen and stickers, sullying those beautiful, beautiful games in an orgy of hate-filled wantonness.

Only now, years later, do I understand that my previous tastes were wrong. I was wrong. I am ashamed, and I beg your forgiveness.

    Yours sincerely,

Electronics Boutique ('EB') and/or Game ('P')

  • Only not buying certain games when they were readily available when I was a child...but I wasn't to know they'd increase in value I guess. I've never thrown GBA or other boxes away for games O-o

Till I saw that. Well played.
  • lol I didn't even pick that up, Just thought he was a grapher

  • Thank you, I'm here all week. Tip your waitress.

  • Lol, we need a thanks button.

  • Trading in all my old 360 CE/LE when i wanted a ps3

  • I never made any real mistake prior to collecting, but then I do regret selling a few of the FF games I did own. My biggest mistake is probably when I started to get into collecting. I threw away tons of money to build my first small stack. Something I truly regret cause a lot of the games I bought I could of got at a much lower price if I had been patient.

Lesson learned: Be patient and you will "probably" be rewarded, probably.

  • I got two stories:

    1) Before I got into collecting I had around 150 games and around 250 dvds. So when we were going to move my wife convinced me to buy folders for all the disks and toss out the boxes, manuals, and art work. Yep trash bags all full of complete boxes most of which were purchased brand new at retail all in trash bags smashed up in the garbage truck. Yes I can kick myself now!

    2) Growing up my dad was a video game collector and he collected NES, NES64, Seag Gen, Intellivsion, and CollecoVision games all in the box. When I was a teenager I took a bunch of them and sold them at a pawn shop for candy money and music. I thankfully don't remember which titles I sold except one Clay Fighter for N64.

In June I will be going back to visit my parents and we plan to go into my dads storage and see what he has maybe then I will remember what I sold =( Lol should I tell him what I did as a kid lol I dont think I ever told him. Kids are crazy some times!
