Sealed games are great and all but I dont go out of my wallet to get them. I have 2 sealed games Lethal Weapon (Gameboy, $1) and Jak & Daxter (PS2, $5).
If I had that kind of money to waste, I'd probably like to get brand new sealed NES games, but then I'd just open them up after that, that'd be pretty fun and bring back some memories, the point would be to have it new with everything, but cart only is just fine with me, afterall, aside from looking at the manuals once in a great while just to admire the art in them, the only thing getting used is the game, the rest of the stuff would just sit around taking up space and collecting dust. What I would like though is a collection where all of my carts look brand new, I hate looking at ones with torn up labels and writing on them, as well as manuals for all of my games would be nice too, boxes don't concern me as much, I'd have no place to put them anyway.
I would like one sealed game (in really good condition) just to put on the shelf with my collection but I dont think being a sealed collector is really something that interests me.
I'll buy a game sealed if I can afford it, but I always open them because of the rush of being the first person to use an out of date product. So far I have bought three unused out of date games before. Ms. Pacman on the 2600 for $24, Space Invaders on the 2600 for $14 or $16, and Streets of Rage on the sms for just under $30.
I love sealed games...I only have 6, 2 of which I care nothing about, but I want all of my fav childhood games sealed. I have a 3 Stooges, Goonies 2, T & C Surf, and Ironsword. I really only want 2 more. Wizards and Warriors, and Paperboy.
Bottome line.. it is a very expensive hobby. Trying to find 700+ NES games sealed with mint condition pieces at 100$+ a pop (not counting the high end stuff) = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
I agree trying to get all the games would almost be insane unless you are a millionaire or something
for me collection started with roms, then carts, then CIB, and lately a few of my favorites sealed.
I try to get one copy to keep sealed, and then one to open.
I think there is at least the potential for sealed games to get more expensive. Especially games like Zelda, where the kid that plays the newest zelda game as their first, then has to have and searches for the original sealed. Also people periodically opening sealed copies, diminishes the supply. Who knows, maybe 5% get opened every year, maybe less than 1/2 %, wish I could know..
I think collecting in any form as an investment ,is a bad idea. Right now gamers our age are trying to relive our youth, but as we grow older we will stop buying so many games. Look at Atari games, they are almost giving them away.
Old cars illustrate this trend. Really old cars from the teens and 20s have dropped drastically in value, while Muscle Cars are probably peaking at about 2-3 times the price of a decade ago. Just now are the values starting to decline, and they will probably be much cheaper 10 and 20 years down the road.
Buying and reselling is a completely different thing, there might be some money making to be had buying sealed games now, and reselling them in a couple years. But I doubt you would make any type of large sum, maybe a few bucks here and there. I think some games are a better buy, and could be flipped for a tiddy gain. Does anyone know what a sealed zelda, or super mario was going for a year or two ago?
Im not really big on sealed games. I can see why people would collect them, but I would rather have an opened copy myself. I myslef only have 2 sealed games. Joust on the nes and Space invaders on the super nintendo.
Sealed games are beatiful, but very expensive and difficult to find...
After that there is another problem...if we buy a sealed game but it has some imperfections (maybe a corner with a hit)...Is better buy it or a mint copy not sealed...Is right pay a sealed game with imperfections more then a mint copy?
An italian Stack up brand new, but not in nice condition ( ok, not sealed, but in Italy the games weren't sealed). For me the price is lower then a mint copy...
(sorry for the english, I hope that you can understand me)
not sealed, but sticker sealed. DAMN! I would have bought that had I seen it... does any PAL nut have a confirmed list of sealed sticker games opposed to no sticker new games? I collect these sticker sealed titles, but DAMN there are not too many out there or they are hard to notice.
