haha, king's field is awesome. idc what any1 says. yeah, it's called "shadow tower abyss visual preview disc" it's a dvd, havent watched it though, i dont want to open it. i bought it awhile ago too. heck yeah, that nintendo logo is prolly awesome. i'd hang all japanese rpg companies in my room if i could. i'd buy more king's field stuff but alot of it they want money for, usually like 30 or 40 bucks.. guess they know too... was gunna get that king's field fold out poster then sum1 overbid me when i wasn't there... argh. oh well.
think they'll ever make a king's field 5? full of labrynths with ps3 visuals? first person of course. i got dark souls, but i dont like it much. it's too damn hard, and i'm always button smashin n he too slow.. sum of the areas dont seem like they're reall rich in detail, sumwhat. maybe i'll try it summore and get into it. i just love king's fields epic atmoshphere, digging deeper into the dungeons through your first person eyes, it's really awesome. make a king's field rich like elder scrolls with details on ps3 and it'd be a winner!!
Nice, I'll keep that in mind. I'll find that DVD eventually, when I get to it. There's a lot of stuff that costs a lot of money. Personally, I bought a magazine(PS Extreme) because it had a four page article about King's Field in it - that cost me $99 + $12 USD shipping, lol! xD
The likelihood of KFV is quite low, I'm afraid. Someone's made a http://www.vgboxart.com/boxes/PS2/23050_kings_field_v_the_last_destiny-v2.pngmock up cover that's pretty cool, though. I hear Dark Souls is slightly more like KF than Demon's Souls, but I'm going to go through them both. They should've added a way of switching to first person view.
Xed: KFIV PAL has a bad translation btw, the NTSC is much better.
I've been able to discover one more variant of KF2, spesifically there are two different variants of the Japanese KF2 The Best release. The only difference is the data on the disc. On one disc, the game version is 1.8A, on the other the version is 1.8B. Exactly what this means for the game itself I've no idea, but it's probably just a couple of bug fixes at most.
A complete copy of KF3: Power Completist showed up on Yahoo! Auctions Japan a few days ago, and I won the auction. So now I've got the second most rare KF release on its way.
To get the KF2 The Best v1.8A that I'm missing, I'd either have to buy a bunch of copies in hopes of getting the one I'm missing, or ask sellers to check it for me. Turns out most people are too lazy to even bother. But one eBay seller, Eric Rabideau (theretroprince), replied to my inquiry and had the variant I was looking for. And not only that, despite me making it clear that I would buy the game, he instead chose to donate it to my collection! So a big thanks to Eric for that!
With that last KF2 variant on its way from Eric Rabideau, and the KF3 Power Completist on its way from Japan, I've got every variant out there for all the four main King's Field games! What I'm missing now is the King's Field III: Pilot Style(which is not a KF3 variant, but its own, little game), and one variant of each of the two KF Additional games.
The donation from Eric Rabideau arrived today, and now I can truly say I've got every single known King's Field 2 release variant in the world! (Feel free to correct me if you know of any I don't have, though!)
Big thanks to Eric for this final piece of the KF2 collection!
Friday about a week ago I went to pick up a parcel at the local post office. When I got home, I found that it was what I'd been waiting for almost two months to get!
Inside the parcel I found the Japanese variant of Eternal Ring, a King's Field IV poster, a small, Japanese guide to Shadow Tower, and what has since become the jewel of my collection: King's Field III: Power Completist!
I have been looking for this release for at least a couple of years, and all I've seen is an incomplete one. Until this one popped up, and I actually got it for only 530 yen - roughly $7 USD or £4.50 GBP - plus shipping! That's roughly half of what the normal version usually goes for!
There isn't really much difference to the release from the normal one, other than that it bundled in a slipcase with a small guide book.
The guide book is of good quality, and can to some extent even be used by someone who doesn't know Japanese(like me) because of the maps you find in it. In addition, it also seems to include things like lists of items and weapons, with information about them, and what looks like a map of how all the different areas are connected.
The KF3: Power Completist is the second most rare King's Field release, so I am very happy to finally have it in my collection!
I know I'm late to the game, but what a great thread. Thanks for doing all that work and putting together a great template for other Kings Field collectors. I'm just getting started with the US releases. Awesome stuff. I remember trying Kings Field when it came out but I just now starting to appreciate their greatness. Like a lot of other people I assume, I went back and tried these games because of the awesomeness of Demons Souls and boy was I an idiot for not giving the game more of a chance way back when.
@babywuchki: Demon's Souls and Dark Souls certainly seems to have attracted a lot of attention to the KF games.
I just came across a variant I hadn't seen or heard of before, namely a PAL KF4 promo disc! So that's one more I'm missing, but it'll probably be in my hands before the end of the year!

I still haven't bought a copy of Kings Field 4 PAL PS2.. putting that on my to-do list!
