Myriad & Caltron 6 in 1

Although I never played these as a kid I'm looking to pick up a rare cart to get my collection started.  Anyone know what these are go for right now (both are on ebay). Is Myraid significantly rarer then Caltron?

  • myriad is about $800 - $900, but the price keeps rising, the caltron which is much more common, seems to keep at a steady $200 - $225
  • Thanks image, what do you guys think in terms of the condition of the games?
  • This auction will really tell us a lot about Myriad, because it's been a while since one has actually run a full course at auction. I think the last one went for around what skankinmack said. It'll be interesting to see how high it goes, and there are probably a few collectors that are tired of holding out for a CIB one, so they may go for this one.
  • I didn't see your second question. For Myriad, condition (I think) would be less of a factor, since it's hard to find one in any condition. For Caltron, you can be a lot more picky since it's much easier to find.
  • Oh ok just checking.  I've been gaming for a long time but I am basically new to collecting so I wasn't sure. This board has helped me learn a lot though image.
  • I think, as Dain said, you'll run into some competition for the Myriad. There are a lot of folks looking for that one. If you're thinking you might want to actually play it, the Caltron is a much better bet, as it's much more common and will go a LOT cheaper.
  • And if you want to save even more cash (to just play the games), you can pick up the 6 in 1 Real Player's Pak by HES (Australian release) or the Multi-Açäo 6 in 1 by Dynacom (Brazilian release)
  • ^^^ I always thought the Real Players Pak HES game was really hard to find. Am I wrong on that?
  • You're not wrong, I've only seen a few in the last 12 months. But I haven't really been actively looking for them..
  • They aren't super common, but they go for cheap (relatively speaking) when they pop up.

  • dain, the last myriad to sell on ebay was a few months ago... it was this cart actually. it ended for $860 with this dude winning it. i know this because i was the second highest bidder and got sniped by him at the end! agh! since that time, i have bought 2 cib fff aws, 2 boxed bonks, 2 boxed bomberman 2s, cib jimmy connors, got a cib color a dino and cib mario time machine coming in a trade... needless to say, i don't think i will be winning the myriad, but good luck to all those who are bidding! and you may ask why i got 2 of each of those rare things... the answer is simple. i am building an ark and need 2 of each nes game to take on it with me. instead of getting braveheart and portnoyd to join me in the ark, i decided to try it by myself! haha.
  • is the only difference between myriad and caltron the sticker than myriad slapped on top of it?
  • yup... so technically, when you own a Myriad, you can say "I own two Caltrons" because you could always rip off the label
  • Yeah, that's exactly what I plan on doing once I win the Myriad. image
  • Oh yeah, I completely forgot about the one that just sold. Duh!

If you're thinking of kickstarting the collection, my advice would be to decide how you want to collect first - loose, complete in box, sealed, or just a mix.      I think it makes sense to figure out what you want the collection to look like before you drop nearly a grand on the myriad.  Good luck!

  • I started out with the idea that I would collect sealed games. At the same time I kind of wanted to collect cart only as well to play the games I collect. I think you're right that this really is a lot to drop maybe this early into my collecting. I know I could get a lot of other stuff if I held off on going after the rare stuff so I think I'll stick to that for the time being while I get my feet wet in the hobby. I'm really interested now though to see what this cart goes for, should be interesting.
  • I think that's a smart choice. You could do a lot worse than buying a loose myriad, but getting your feet wet before throwing around the cash is always smart.
  • When this cart was first discovered it didn't exactly create huge waves. A curious find to be sure but was the fact it was on Etlers list the only thing that seperated this one from all the other grey area category cartridges or am I missing something?
  • I think you're right - that and the sealed stash helped...
  • It wasn't on Etler's list. Even Chris Zawada's edit didn't have it.
  • the more and more i think about it, its hard for me to include myriad AS a part of a COMPLETE US nes collection, the higher and higher it goes the more and more i think its a variant LOL !! maybe its because thinking i need a peek a boo poker and a cheetahmen 2 to have every US released game feels and seems much easier to accomplish, but when i think of needing peek a boo, cheetahmen, AND myriad. It seems pretty tough. lol thats where im standing at the moment. However im sure those who were lucky to snag it up for under $300.00 will defintely include it as the set. So i guess its all preference really.

Yeah you are right just the Caltron version.
  • regardless, of variation hoopla or not the "second run" of caltron produced a completley new box, new manual and new name. I wouldn't compare this to ANY other variation at all. it's not like cut corner AVE or Black Car Color Dreams. This is truely a unique piece.

If Color Dreams or any other Unlicensed POS tossed there company and someone picked up the "remaining stock" and printed brand new stuff for it, I wouldn't call it a variation at all. We don't consider Pac-Man Tengen and Pac-Man Namco to be the same game to have in a set, although they pretty much are.
  • Different publisher = different title in my book. If you don't count Myriad in your set, you have to ask yourself why you are counting both Temple of Dooms, as it also is an instance of two different publishers releasing a game with identical code (with the exception of the "licensed by Nintendo" on the title screen). Same goes for Pac-Man and others...
  • Don't forget the Caltron non-Myriad variation ;p
  • Not counting the myriad is the same as counting a pal SE in a complete set.  To be very technical, it could be called a variation, but so could SE.  I don't count them as variations, and if I can't get them, I won't say I have a complete set (if I get all but the SE I'll say I have a complete* set, because I have the repro).

if you are going by your own logic than this doesn't make any sense by saying that your set is complete with an SE repro.

    ah...
but what if Myriad really is Caltron deep down inside...?

and we are all just a bunch of fools with nothing better to do than argue about unlicensed games and publishers image
