SNES Modem

I just picked this up.  It seems like a really cool idea, although I never heard about it back in the day.  Are these hard to find? Are they worth anything?

Actually I have no idea, but someone just bought one from a flea market pretty recent.
  • As cool as they are, they're neither really rare nor in demand nor valuable. A CIB one may fetch $10-$15 tops.
  • Did it actually work? And could it be hacked to work on a LAN
  • I don't know what they're worth, but I think Dangevin and Wizard have one, so you could hook up with them and have your own three-way image
  • Wow, it's disgusting how far ahead the curve Nintendo was on some of their early system peripherals.
  • According to the box: IT'S EMPTY!
  • yep back when I got mine (paid about $10-15 shipped) I think there was a bit of discussion about how to network them but it'd be awful tough to figure out how to use them. Wiki says it's just a 2400-baud modem, but who knows what compression protocol it's running with. Back in those days it was like Xmodem and checksum image

I found one board dedicated to it. It's laughable, after the 3rd page of porn spam I just gave up. The people that say it's worthless are pretty well spot on.

    It is, however, quite pretty.
  • This is one of my favorite items, an X-Band prototype with clear plastic rather than purple:

  • wow i have one of those i got in a lot of stuff it wasnt boxed so i was going to throw it in the trash
  • ooh so that's what that was I remember the pic but didn't know what the adapter was, that's really pretty damned cool. The early version is notably missing the vestigial front expansion slot.

It's not empty, once you decided to purchase it, at the store, they would put the modem in the box.
