On and off again SNES functionality problems

One of my Super Nintendo Systems has the strangest consistency problem. Sometimes it works fine and other times it takes ages for a game to fire up. At other times, the game will not boot up past the first or second load screen. This is, thankfully, not the case with my other SNES, so the problem has to be with the damn system.

What would cause a system to work sometimes and other times not?

  • more likely than not, you'll need a new pin connector
  • Take the pin connector out and boil it. I had a Super NES that would not play some games at all. I removed the pin connector boiled it, used a hair dryer to dry it, reinstalled it, and VOILA! All the games would work the first time.
  • Well... while I haven't removed the pin connector to REALLY clean it, I have used other methods to clean it. Maybe I do need to "up the ante" and pop her out or replace her...

    Thanks for the input, ya'll!
