Double Dragon Arcade (Not working) HELP!

I have no idea about anything as far as Arcade Cabinets go... But I have a chance to buy a non working Double Dragon Arcade Cabinet for $50.. It hasn't been gutted the guy just doesn't know why it won't work.. Is this worth buying? Maybe just to try and fix up? Or can I maybe put other games in the cabinet.. Any help would be great so I can make a decision..

  • If it's a dedicated cabinet, 50 bucks is a steal. I'd buy it nonworking if it's local. Shipping cabinets is expensive.
  • I'm positive it's a dedicated cabinet and it's local.. So I should get it then? Can I swap out games if there is something wrong with the JAMMA board or replace it with another Double Dragon Board?
  • If you determine that the only problem is with the board, then you should be able to replace the board with another JAMMA (doesn't even need to be Double Dragon). I used to have a dedicated TMNT machine in my apartment, and we'd swap out the JAMMA boards for other games all the time.
  • swapping boards looks pretty easy...but it is probably the monitor which isn't so easy or cheap to repair. That is what is wrong with my Heavy Barrel machine.

  • If its a dedicated Double Dragon, its jamma. A board swap takes about 30 seconds, if the monitor is solid and there aren't any other problems, $50 is a great deal.

What's wrong with your monitor NGD? If it just needs a cap kit it won't cost too much. Ever have anyone take a look at it?
  • Double Dragon arcade game, oh how I love thee! If I was going to get an Arcade game, this would be the one. I say get it.
  • definately go for it.  As has been said, it's jamma, so barring monitor problems, you can swap for other games, which is cool in it's own right.
  • Absolutely. And there are hundreds and hundreds of Jamma boards. As long as you have enough buttons for the respective game, you can put it in there and have no problems playing it.

And they make Jamma -> Something else converters if you were ever wanting to convert it to any other game, like Konami or Galaga, etc.

Oh, and the other thing you have to watch out for is monitor orientation for whatever game you want to swap for. I think most jamma use horizontal orientation, as opposed to most classic games using vertical.
  • I don't know what is wrong with mine to be honest....I bought it and played it one time. I busted my head on the top of it cause I am so tall and then monitor went out. The FX and music still works like the game is playing, all the light come on, just the monitor doesn't. I really don't know much about them. I checked the fuses and they are all good...

  • I bought three non-working cabinets and got them all working. Maybe I can poke around when I come over next time, Jason.
  • Man I wish I lived near you guys so we could fix arcade machines, play video games, and sit around and fart.

Monitor orientation isn't an issue with my Taito Egret cab, it has a rotation mechanism built in.  That shit is awesome!  What cabs do you have?

I just might do that one day. My sister lives in Atlanta and it takes me about 3 hours to get there.
  • Pensacola isn't too far away either, Custom NES. image
  • Oh and Mark, I have a Frogger/Scramble cabinet that I swap boards for and I have a River Patrol cabinet. Going to sell both in a month though. No way to bring them with me to Utah.

Um...NGD...Valdosta is in south Georgia, about 15 miles from the Florida line image .  It's about 7 hours between the two of you (and about 6 between him and me).
  • Yeah..I think I was confusing Macon and Valdosta for whatever reason...

I'd get it and get on r.v.g.a and see if you can find someone local to take a look at it if you don't want to tinker yourself. If you find the monitor to be bad and you can't solder like I can't, you will definitely want some help.

When you say it doesn't work, does the monitor fire up (it will be blank) but you can hear it fire up. Is there a marquee light and does it come on? Have you tried crediting it up for any sound?

If none of these happen, there is a loose connection or your power supply is probably shot. You probably want to take it home first before checking the connections as it can save you some money if you get it working before it's yours. You can replace the power supply fairly easy but it may not be the only problem.
