Nintendo DS game question

How does a Nintendo DS game save?  The cart (if thats what you call it) seems awfully thin to hold the battery I am use to seeing in the old school carts.  I dont even see a way to open any of the DS games my son has.  Is the battery something that can be replaced later on when the time comes?

  • I think the DS uses flash memory. Just like a SD card. I could be wrong about that, as i havent looked it up

Hmmm....if so I wonder how long the cart retain the ability to save.

  • I think the save state for SD Cards is based on the read/write cycles, which i think they now last into the millions. That should get many years of useages of just less than 100 r/w cycles a day

most games i think use only about 4-5 cycles per gaming session.
  • DS carts use flash memory to hold game saves, those saves will probably outlive you.
