Best Investment

Okay, that summary is a serious exageration.  Anyone whose seen my other posts knows I'm a pretty small-time collector compared to most of you guys.  However, I just quit a disgusting habit of chewing tabacco (six days clean!) and to keep myself motivated, I'm making a little deal with myself.  I figure at $6 a day, I will have saved $300 within 50 days.  So, after 50 days, I'm willing to splurge and spend, maybe up to half that ($80-150 range) on something nice for my collection.  Here's what I'm looking at, and any input you guys have would be appreciated.

Things I'm considering:

1.) Power Glove

2.) R.O.B.

3.) Famicom and some games

4.) An expensive game,  Snow Brothers or Chip N Dale 2...or maybe both Contra Force and Fire N Ice...something like that.

I realize if I played my cards right I could probably get the first 3 well under the 300, but I just want to buy myself one nice thing, not burn through all the money I saved.  Plus I'd like to get whatever I get in nice shape.  Maybe even CIB.

What would you do?

P.S. I garage sale a lot and go to flea markets, so it doesn't really matter.  I know whichever one I buy I will find for 32 cents in the wild a week later

  • That's a great way to motivate yourself! I'd say contra force, only because I'm currently wanting it myself
  • 5.) An arcade game of some sort...they're so fun.
  • Hahaha, I'm actually building an arcade cabinet. Just hope I have room for it...
  • I would personally say either a uncommon/rare nes game or a famicom set up. Or maybe a boxed console? I think boxed consoles look great displayed with the collection.

That's some dedication, but waaaay easier just to go buy a cheap dynamo cab and turn it into whatever you want to do with it. Or....find a caberet cab for (semi) cheap at a local auction.

I'd go for getting an expensive game. Possibly even a graded game, depending on the title.
  • I like that idea. I looked on ebay and the only deluxe set I saw was going for 400! Maybe, over the next month, I can find a good deal on one.
  • The other sets sell for much less if you dont have them. I would like to get a top loader CIB at some point.
  • Congrats on finding the will power to kick a nasty habit, I've got a few myself I'd like to rid, cigarettes and caffeine , anyways , more power to you for what you choose to buy , but you do deserve a little reward !
  • Thanks man. And RetroNESNerd, I know, I even thought about buying the box and styro pat is selling, since I have all the action set pieces, but it just wouldn't feel right. But the deluxe set would be two birds with one stone.

Ahh well, I have to keep it up for another 44 days before I can really decide anyway. I appreciate all you guys and your input. I'll let you know what I decide when I get there!
  • Hey (I'm new here.) You should spring for some Famicom games. Tons of fun! Congrats of kicking the habit!
  • Cib fire and ice.......
  • I would go for a game. Snow Bros is an awesome game. Same with Fire n' Ice. Get more use out of them. I have a power glove that I bought many years ago for $20 bucks to say I had one. I think I have actually used it a grand total of 10 times. Most of the time its a "Hey, you have a Power Glove? Can I try it?"...... Same thing goes for my Sega Activator Ring..... only I only used it maybe 3 times.
  • Or another though..powerpak, so you can play tons of games, then buy the carts of the ones you like the best. And there's always some repros to buy too.
  • If I had money to burn I would personally get 3.) Famicom and some games and perhaps a 25 dollar donation to this wonderful site.
