Is this a sign that my battery is going dead?

Over three day I put around 20 hours of work in the Zelda Snes cart.  The game saved just fine.  The last time I put it in however all saved files were deleted.

What is odd is that I am able to still save games on it.  I played for 5 minutes and saved the game and the file was still on there once I took the game out and put it back in.

All of my games are pretty clean.  Is this a sign that my battery is going bad or is this a common occurance to those of us who dont hold down reset before shutting off?  (Heard that before...so not sure)

  • Yes my Zelda games for the NES are doing the same thing. I can still save, but they might delete at random. About a month ago i started (and lost) a new game file about 3 times
  • most likely timee to change the batteries. 20 plus years is probably past their life expectancy
  • They are really easy to replace if you know how to solder. Just PM if you need some batteries or if you want a free guide on how to do it.

Back then they told us that the batteries would only last five years. I've got a five-screw Zelda that still saves. It has to be 25 years old being five-scew and all. The battery's never been replaced.
