Is this an eBay scam?

Hey all,

Just wanted to see if this is a scam in the making or not. I've taken all precautions I'm aware of, but figured I'd still ask.

I recently sold a PS2 system to a guy who lives in Flordia. As soon as the sale goes through, I get this message:

"HI MY NAME IS GONZALO VITERI AND I AM FROM ECUADOR, I BOUGHT YOUR PS2, DON'T WORRIED, I WILL GIVE YOU AN ADRESS IN USA, BUT I NEED THAT YOU SEND A COPY OF THE INVOICE IN BOX, PLEASE YOU DON'T FORGET IT.

OK TO-DAY I AM GOING TO PAY YOUR INVOICE.

GOD BLESS YOU."

That just sounds like a scam like crazy to me. I figured whatever, sent the invoice, and he paid promptly. It said I was covered by Paypal, so I just shipped it out today.

Then today, I sell another PS2 to a different guy, but he lives on the same block as the last one :-\. I dunno, is there something I'm missing here? I feel like I'm taking all of the precautions needed, but just feel like something is amiss.

Thanks

  • Also, for whatever it's worth, the first guy's account name is cogisella1976 and the second one is chabelita1934.
  • I have seen that a lot. The person has a freight forwarder. They need the invoice with the cost showing so when their forwarder ships it off to them, they have something for customs.

If you look up either of those address you will see that they are in big buildings, and probably pretty close to shipping yards.
  • I do the same thing, since lots of sellers do not shipto canada, so i ship to a US address who holds the mail for me or even mails it to me if its an expensive item.
  • If the seller doesn't have any feedback, the DO NOT sell to them. I had someone try to do the same thing to me and I called eBay and they said it more than likely a scam. Once you send them the invoice, you HAVE TO SHIP. Otherwise they can get you in a lot of trouble with eBay. I would highly recommend you do some Google research before you do anything.
  • P.S. Ecuador is a lot further away from the U.S. than Canada or Mexico is.
  • Also, I'd like to add that I had somebody from Latvia wanting to buy a several hundred dollar caddy part I was selling. Same deal, he wanted to pay me then have me ship it to somebody here as I only ship to the US on ebay. His stated address on the invoice was in Latvia. I was a little concerned about covering my bases so I called ebay and they told me you are responsible to get it to their address. So if I sent it elsewhere and something happened to it on the way, I would still be responsible in a claim scenario. I told them I couldn't do it and why. The guy ended up having a frieght forwarder buy it and I sent it to the same address he wanted, the difference being the address was confirmed to that location and was eligible for seller protection. Just throwing that out there to help others.
  • yeah I do the same... one friend buy for me and he send it to me...
  • was it doral florida? I just got ripped for $229.50 chargeback for 10 broken xbox systems
