Vectrex HP 3000 w/ 1 controller

This afternoon i got this e-mail:

I found  a Vectrex model HP 3000 with 1 controller.  It is in working condition and has the following games in boxes with overlays and instructions.  Boxes are not in the best of shape, but all are in working condition.  Space Wars, Clean Sweep, Star Quest, Starhawk and Star Trek.  The game Cosmic Chase has an overlay with instructions and no box.  The game Armor Attack has no overlay or instructions.  I'm asking $100.

Anyone familiar with this system? what it is or what it's worth?  I'm not familiar with it at all

    Vectrexes usually go for about $100. Maybe a little more but if you're selling it online you have to factor in the fact that people have to pay to ship the damn thing.



    Games, if they're CIB usually go for around $10-$20, depending on the title obviously and there are some that go for a bit more. Not familiar enough with it to tell you about those specific titles you listed.

    Those titles are fairly common for the system (Star Trek is EXTREMELY common), but thats a pretty solid price. I've had 2 Vectrex systems go through my hands over the years (both found locally oddly enough) and I have to say shipping those things is a serious pain in the ass as they are super heavy.



    A couple things to note:



    Ask about the functionality of the controller. It is very, very difficult to find a working controller for sale by itself and they can sell for $40+ alone. Make sure the stick auto centers itself or you'll have to pop it open and replace a spring. If you're looking to keep this for yourself, you can buy a modified Genesis controller to get your 2 player fix.



    Also, ask how loud the machine is when it is turned on. Some Vectrex units get very noisy while others seem to purr along quite softly.



    Armor Attack is a great game, as is the built in Mine Storm. All Vectrex ROMS are public domain too, so you can pick up something like Sean Kelly's multi-cart and not have to feel guilty about stealing anything. There is a very healthy homebrew Vectrex scene too, something else to keep an eye out for.

    I was mostly looking to turn it over, so if the controller is good thats a plus but if the thing is beat up i'm screwed. I told him $50 depending on its location. I'm not going to be able to lug a 50lb brick around forever.
