I lucked out and picked up one of the SCATS that had been sitting around here locally for ages, got it for like 3.99, good label and a two nasty rental stickers. The first was one of those ones that you peel off and it leaves foil chunks behind saying void. The second was one with the metal strip. I bought a sega cd game awhile back, I believe lunar that had one from a rental store under a sticker. I started to scratch it off, and the strip dug halfway down underneath my fingernail. Years later , I remembered to be careful and yea the SCAT cart had one....anyways got them all off and the cart looks great.
back on topic...
I have been monitoring some of these titles too, and have seen them disappearing quickly. I wouldn't be too surprised if someone is buying multiple copies. Cause there are new collectors every day, as well as some selling their inventories, but lately some of them have been drying up. Even these threads cause us to quickly add a title into our collection . Now some harder to find games are still going to be cheap cause of various reasons...poor gameplay, poor cover art, etc etc.
But in my trying to make a good educated guess, I would choose/agree on these being the three biggest ones to make the jump in price.
Mighty Final Fight (Name Recognition, Good Gameplay, Good Graphics)
SCAT (Name Recognition, Good 2 Player Contra Like CO-OP)
Haha, awesome thread. SCAT has been undervalued for far too long, and the run on SCAT carts happened sometime over the past week or two. No carts on eBay or Amazon. It appears on almost everyone's last 25-30 games when going for a full set, it's obviously rarer than the price indicates.
I always thought Toki and Race America were a bit of a pain as well.
Edit: Just noticed that you mentioned the SCAT phenomenon already.
You wouldn't happen to be selling a SCAT right now would you?
I remember when you, jonebone, had a $17 shipped cart-only S.C.A.T. for sale maybe a year or so ago. I inquired about it but passed. Damn.
you do realieze the NA effect right? when list like these are made then guys like me buy them up and hold them to see what they will do ..and when they blow up I sell to get my next hard to find game

Then I'll make a thread about how much evil people like Charlie are ruining our hobby. Then a new thread about the tier 3 games pops up, then Charlie buys 'em, then a new thread...it's a vicious cycle!
...evil people like Charlie are ruining our hobby...
Hopefully that's tongue-in-cheek, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. No one person can ruin NES collecting.
I'm gonna say Die Hard, Cliffhanger, Wayne's World, Color a Dinosaur, and TMNT Tournament Fighters were among my toughest finds during the final stretch.

I'd like to see if it can be done, since I've got my NTSC set complete already.
Don't forget to corner the market on those NWC carts.
I was lucky enough to pick up a Kid Klown about a year ago at Goodwill for $5, but I've never gotten close to sniffing any of the others at a reasonable price out in the wild.
glad to see that I've got some of these knocked out. I actually picked up Princess Tomato and Cliffhanger today along with a few others. I will be posting today's find in the Finders Keepers forum here shortly...
The game store I go to once had three copies of RC Pro AM 2 at the same time and I haven't seen another one there since. Somebody already mentioned Felix the Cat, but they had one of those the last time I was there.
This is the cool part about this hobby. Someone can buy every rare cart on the internet and they will continue to come out of the wood work, forever. FOR EV ER.
Stupid thing is I've seen scat many of times in the past n past up on it their out there but ppl think everything is rare n keep games from circulation n jack prices up FUCK YOU ASSHOLE RESELLERS

For me personally, when I see 5 or fewer of a game, that's my sign that it's worthy of being a tier 2 rarity!! But the best way is to document this stuff over time, as every game has it's droughts.
to bring this back on topic, i just did a quick eBay search to update what XYZ started here:
Bases Loaded 4: 6 (2 cart only, one sealed!)
Battletoads/Double Dragon: 12 (all cart only, one with box)
Bomberman 2: ZERO
Bucky O'Hare: 11 (one CIB, two sealed)
Cliffhanger: 5 (ironically all cart only)
Conan: 3 (1 CIB)
Cool World: 10 (mostly cart only, one sealed)
Defenders of Dynatron City: 13 (one CIB)
Die Hart: 8 (2 CIB)
Faria: 5 (2 CIB)
Felix the Cat: 17 (3 CIB)
Fire 'n' Ice: 6 (2 CIB)
Frankenstein: 5 (one sealed)
Galaxy 5000: 19 (two CIB)
Godzilla 2: 4 (2 CIB)
Gun Nac: 1 (CIB)
Jackie Chan: 7 (one CIB, one sealed)
Jimmy Connor's Tennis: 3 (one CIB, one sealed)
Kid Klown: 5 (all cart only)
Last Action Hero: 4 (one CIB, one sealed)
Little Ninja Brothers: 7 (one CIB)
Might & Magic: 1 (cart only)
Mighty Final Fight: 6 (one CIB)
Race America: 2 (one CIB)
R.C. Pro-Am II: 7 (two CIB)
Rockin' Kats: 8 (all cart only)
Romance of the Three Kingdoms II: 2 (one CIB)
SCAT: 1 (with manual)
Shadow of the Ninja: 3 (all cart only)
Swamp Thing: 5 (one CIB)
TMNT Tournament Fighters: 16 (all cart only)
Toki: 8 (one CIB)
Wacky Races: 3 (one CIB)
World Champ: 9 (2 CIB)
Young Indiana Jones: 7 (two CIB, two sealed)
was surprised to see so many sealed games. probably because i'm not a sealed collector, but cool to know there's plenty out there!

Thanks for doing this. Its interesting to see that availability doesn't seem to change all that much. I wonder how much variance there is over a single year...

That seemed a bit high to me. Not to mention some gouger's put up 2 more copies at ridiculous BIN prices.

There is a scat on half for 29.99 as eBay auctions are reaching 50 and bin 100, someone who needs it should snag it up

You'd think they'd choose one of the many other threads that are actually ranting on resellers
Probably a reseller trying to bump these games into people minds to get the prices up so he can offload afew. lol
