For Sale Database

This is a bigger project that I think would be great.

I know there are a lot of people on this website with stuff for sale that is never even seen due to the massive userbase.  For example, I have about 40 extra carts for sale but they are pretty common,  I don't bump the thread that often because many of you have more interesting/ sought after games and accessories for sale.

I think it would be great to have an option to see a list of users who are selling a perticular product.  I don't think having a price each member is selling the perticular game for would be right but having specific contact information (their NA name) would be awesome.

I would love to be able to log in and say "I want to buy a Mega Man 2 manual" and have it be an easy search.  Maybe integration with the collection feature we already have?

Too difficult?  The search function is good enough?  What do you think?

  • haha, it would be great, but then it will drive up the price of n64 games even more!
  • I like the idea too, but I think it would be too much work, hopefully it gets implemented.
  • By not having prices listed in the actual database, it would keep people from undercutting and driving prices up. Most of us use ebay to gauge our prices anyways.

I don't enjoy using ebay, I would rather support another collector so this would benefit almost everyone here on the site.

What problems do you see arising from having something like this?

*I think the easiest way to do this would use the collection feature.  Another check box saying "for sale?" could add the title and owner of that collection to a list that would be easily referenceable.
  • great idea for sure I think this would be a decent addition for NA members to use, as long as random people don't start joining just to get the deals
  • I like the idea, but like Abelardo said, it would be a lot of work to implement. It also might make it more tedious for sellers to list stuff.

With the large volume of people on the site, I think it would be helpful to have more subcategories for the selling thread. For example, I think it would be nice to have separate places for SNES, NES, and N64 stuff. Maybe even another sub category for boxed/loose stuff. It would make searching a lot easier. Maybe allow sellers to post in multiple categories instead of posting one giant thread?

IDK just some thoughts. I'm just happy they separated the WTB thread from the FS. That was an awesome idea.
  • There is such a feature over at RF Generation, but it doesn't seemed to get used much. I tried it for a bit, but it is much more work to keep up than a simple list.
  • CheapAssGamer has a feature like this. The only problem is that the users never update when something sells and it can be quite outdated.
  • I think if people just spelled out what they actually had then it would make the "Advance Search" feature the site already has much more useful. List something as Final Fantasy II instead of FFII or FF2.
