There's a fake ISSD (SNES) on ebay...

I know a few people here on NA (including myself) are on the hunt for both ISS and ISSD, so I thought I'd give a heads up on this fake copy on ebay.

There's no ESRB rating or license number on the label. I emailed the seller just now and told him, we'll see what he says.

  • I was going to post this as well. The guy sold a pirate/fake/unreleased or whatever you want to call it ISS with box for $80 as well (the Playtronic version). This is NOT the offical Konami NTSC release so its worth passing on. Look at the pics of the real carts that OCDsteeldor posted if you want to know which ISS/ISSD to look for and buy.
  • Well....after a few message exchanges, this guy won't take my word that this isn't a legit copy. I'm not going to convince him, but if you guys want to try, go ahead! I'm just going to leave it as is.

    ---------------------------------
My message: "Just a heads up....this is a fake ISSD. There is no ESRB rating or license number on the label."
    --------------------------------
His reply: "This game is a Brazilian release. Made by Gradiente! image It has the Nintendo seal of autenticity."
    --------------------------------
    My second message: "Well,
it's still not a legit copy. I'm not saying you did this or that you
knew it wasn't legit, but I'm 100% certain this is a pirate copy with a
fake label. Sorry for the information..."
    --------------------------------
His second reply: "I've made some research and here are a bunch of reasons for me to strong believe that this is a legit game:
This game is a BRAZILIAN version: it is licensed by Gradiente (an
enterprise that released Nintendo games in Brazil in the late 80's and
90's, much like "tec toy" for sega). Of course there is no ESBR rating,
there was no such a thing in Brazil at the time (today there are
similar things, but it isn't called ESBR rating nor anything like
that). I'm not 100% sure about the license number, but as far as know,
not all games in Brazil were released with a license number printed in
the front label. In the matter of fact, I think MOST of the games
released by Gradiante or Playtronic don't have this number printed in
the front label (Playtronic was an early Gradiente name).
Playtronic/Gradiente released the games with the license number printed
in a poor-quality sticker that is attached in the back of the
cartridge. Of corse, that sticker used to fell off the cartridge after
some weeks of use and it's very rare to see a used snes game with that
sticker. This ISSS don't have that sticker anymore."
  • If someone wants a good genuine copy I have one I´d let go for 70.

    (end of shameless plug)

    Go to this thread: http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=5&threadid=8072&highlight_key=y&keyword1=issd

The ISSD pictured there is real. Just above the Nintendo quality seal (on the left part of the label) there is an ESRB rating (K-A) and then just below the seal there's a license number followed by "Made in Japan". The fake on ebay had neither of these features. Also, the label on the one on ebay is washed out...something common with pirate'd copies.
  • If this was made by Gradiente, then I doubt it's a fake. It may not be a US release, but Gradiente was a licensed distributor for NES games (and I'm assuming SNES games). They're not pirates, they're licensed games, and the pics look very reminiscent of the aesthetic quality that is common on a lot of older Brazilian games (they're beat to crap).

So, unless you're sure 100% Gradiente didn't publish this game in Brazil, I wouldn't say it's fake at all. It's just not a US version is all.
  • And the reason there's no ESRB rating is easy to explain: Brazil most likely doesn't use ESRB.
