I'm not buying the hacked thing either. I agree that it is more likely that she bit off more than she could chew and thought winning the NES lots was more important. If anything else it was a stall tactic to have more time to come up with the funds.
Below is the notice we received 'through'ebay, but not 'from' ebay:
Q: Hi, I just found out that I am the winner of these auctions. However, I did not make these bids, I believe there was a hack into my account. This has happened before and I have just contacted Ebay about it, they will look into it and most probably these auctions will be invalidated and cancelled which was what happened last time. I will let you know when Ebay responses. Thanks alot.
I spent an hour on ebay's awful IM customer service trying to determine if this was a legit issue, or just an excuse to get out of the auctions with quite an unsatisfying response... my gut says its an excuse along 'maximus clean''s theory as the notice did not come from ebay itself.
As we don't use ebay all that frequently here (if ever), is there any recouse I can take against 'happycstar'? If this is the same person as 'wasabisabi' can I just offer those lots to 2nd chance bidders who finished below them?
I'm curious in all your thoughts- I really don't wish to deal with someone who pulled something like this and it's been a huge hassle to re-list.
well, you can file non-paying bidder reports against happycaster, as for not dealing with Wasabisabi, you're technically obligated to sell to them, but if you don't receive payment within a set amount of time, you could do second chance offers without recourse. You could in theory just offer second chance offers anyway, and risk the feedback of Wasabisabi. Technically, I also think it's against ebay policy to have multiple accounts, so if any information of the 2 ID's match, you could report that to ebay and also be in the clear to offer second chance offers.
oh, one more thing, if the story is BS, you definitly should file non-paying bidder reports because otherwise, you'll be on the handle for the $2500 or so in fees associated with the auctions.
You should just do 2nd chance offers if you really need to get rid of this stuff without the hassle. You'll probably only lose like $50 from where happycstar won the items. Otherwise, you risk the same thing happening again.
Thanks both of you for the info- I'll contact ebay again about this as I had blocked 'happycstar' from any of my auctions- 2nd chance offers will be out as soon as I'm able to.
Exactly WTH? I've gotten almost all of the games in that lot sealed already for $55 or less? So you're telling me CF SC is worth around $2,900 - $3,000 sealed?
The real question is - who was the runner up? The next highest bid after o....a was half the price. These lots are true outlier auctions. I don't think they mean jack for individual game values.
Crazy prices all the way around. Looks like the real winners here are the people the United Way will be helping. I think everyone else pretty much got hosed!!
It's pretty crappy though that there are those of us that legitametly wanted these lots and bid on them, hell I bid on the NES and N64 lots. The worst part is this is for charity and people still screw with them... In the words of Carlito... "That's Not Cooooooolllll!"
Yeah some people only care about themselves and are willing to step on anyones toes to get what they want. Even if that means defrauding a charitable organization

It IS against ebay rules to bid on an item with a user ID when another user ID you use has been blocked by the user, though.
To me.
I bid one Quizno's Sanwhich more than Vito!
Hey Erik -
We already put the Quizno's next to my store out of business. Don't make me open one in Wenatchee!!
MLN'er
Actually upon really thinking about that I'd be a local at Kegler's and gamble away my business.
Is this a record post count BTW? I think there are more posts in this thread than in the whole of some third-world countries.
At very least, it's got to be a record for posts-per-unit-time...
Some of the stickied threads that have been around for a while might have more total posts; I'm not sure.
