NES AC power supply help

For some reason, everytime i buy a large nes/snes game lot on craigslist, the original power supply is missing!  i need some help figuring out if any of the power supplies i have been able to find laying around the house would work.  i have three options:

Option 1:

Input: 120VAC 60 Hz 200mA

Output 12VAC 1000mA

Option 2:

Input: 120VAC 60 Hz 12W

Output 12VDC 500mA

Option 3 (pretty sure this is to much):

Input: 120VAC 60 Hz

Output 24V AC 1000mA

Thanks!

Good guy and a good member on this board, have gotten power supplies and other stuff from that website!!
  • option 1 would be the best of those 3 but i wouldn't recommend it as original adapters are 9v. option 2 is not pushing enough amps. option 3 voltage is too high.

a model 2 (maybe also model 1) sega genesis adapter would be fine if you have one of those handy.
  • Hmm I hate to say it but I don't think any of those will suit your needs. I believe the NES needs 9V DC. Two of those adapters output AC voltage and the one that outputs DC lacks the proper current for adequate function. I've used a 600milliamp adapter before and had issues so I can bet that 500 won't be enough. I often go to GoodWill and dig through their adapters if I need one. I can usually find one for 96 cents that will work.

Disregard that the NES needs 9V DC. I just looked at my adapter and saw that it outputs 9VAC. I guess it gets rectified somewhere in the NES? Someone else know? I must have been thinking about the Genesis...

  • Hi, you could just try out purcahsing a power supply from a reliable source. For the cause you could consider visiting http://www.staticon.ca/.
  • Both option 1 and 2 will be fine.

Wait, what? Someone bumping a nearly two month old thread to plug their site? I don't like spam...
