old school collector

Hello,
I am glad I found this forum. I am hardcore nintendo, I was never a sega kid, nor a sony kid. I have always been in love with the nintendo consoles since I was very young (as far back as 26 years ago!) And my cousins would dominate the console either at their house or my other cousins house. When I was in about 3rd grade, my aunt handed down thier old NES, and the rest is history. Not having the internet like the kids do now, there was no "how to beat super mario in an hour" etc, we played through it, no matter how long it took. Our NES controllers took a beating, as they got chucked every time we failed, as there was no "go back to that door and try the level again, keeping all the previous levels". Nope, the game started over from the beginning. I also recall my younger brother playing duck hunt at point blank range... before someone discovered the grease or vaseline trick.

We never got an SNES, no. This was the mid 90s, and for christmas, we got a brand, new, N64. This was after witnessing the awesomeness that came from seeing it for the first time at the christmas party at my aunts where my cousin had just gotten it, and seeing cruisin usa for the first time in all its 3D glory. Ahh, the memories, that new console smell ! We got Super Mario 64, extreme G, wave race, mario kart 64, and Diddy Kong Racing (my youngest brother was still very young at this time, so this was his game, but we all had good times on it) at the time I was the only one in the house besides my dad allowed to mess with the TV or any AV stuff, as I had been interested to learn in this department. I remember after that, every day was filled by the N64. Before school, N64. After school, N64. Weekends (except between noon and 5) N64. Snow days, well, that was an entire day of N64 of course.

And as we grew up, N64 grew too. We got a 3rd controller, cant recall, but it was a Mad Katz variant, black, shaped way differently than the genuine controller, with the joystick on the left side of it, and it had a blockbuster sticker on the bottom, as that was where we bought it, as that was where we got games. I remember if I bought a "new" game at funcoland, (oh, funcoland, the good old days, with the funcoland newsprint price guides.. where did the time go) I would "rent" them out to brothers and friends. I had gamefly beat by years, shouldve capitolized on that! The new controller was later upstaged for a very brief period by a Mad Katz wheel (what were we thinking with that thing) the birthday trips to Toys R Us (the only time we went) it was mesmerizing, the video game aisle wall to wall with consoles, games, and various (read numerous) accessories, seeing the controller that had the "jog wheel" on it for racing games, the special "gold N64" wanting to have it all, imagining the future, feeling that i would have "made it" when i could get that gold N64 and the jog wheel controller.

A couple years later, we each got a gameboy pocket for christmas, i got a yellow one. Always wanted the camera and printer for it. Then it was 1999. We moved, a sega was acquired, and that changed a bit. I never felt the same for it as I did for the nintendo. A year later, we moved again, sega went away, N64 was back, and gamecube made a brief appearance at some point. Shortly after, PS2 showed up, then XBOX 360. Since then, my house has been a sony/MS house. I fell out of gaming as I became enveloped in the trending computer field, spending my time in programming and hardware hacking. Shortly after, IN64 decided my "quarter life crisis" wasnt going to be satisfied with a mustang, no. I got a few N64s, original black, jungle green. And the coupe de grace, the GOLD N64. Along with it, all the games I used to play, the jog wheel controller, various memory cards and accessories, atomic purple and "limited edition" extreme green (in box!). I also got my gameboy camera and printer, a few games, and rare ice blue and exreme green gameboy pockets. Along with that, i got the NES and SNES with games and corresponding accessories. I have the gamecube, but im still waiting on prices to drop on games and accessories and my income to go up, as i got stung years ago by the collapse of the tech sector and havent recovered. Ive recently gotten back into things, after running across my unpacked gameboys (my other consoles are boxed up for safe keeping until i can find a safe place to arrange and display them other than my cramped quarters) and snagged an N64 box, and found this forum from another site while searching for a foam for the box, as the seller pitched theirs.

After looking around, im glad i found this place, it seems to be populated by people who share the same love for the cartridge era of yesterday. Thank you for having me, and thanks for taking the time for reading through my "gaming autobiography"
