  • my first nes games were: Super Mario Bros/Duckhunt and Tetris
  • tetris was the game that got me started into this insane world of collecting
  • My first game was Mario/DH/World Class Track Meet which came packed with the (new) system. That was certainly a ton of fun. I believe the first game I got for the system was either Mega Man or Snake Rattle n Roll. I still have (almost) every game I had as a kid (which wasn't a lot), and my first system (still with the box, zapper, power pad, ect).

It was years later when I started actively collecting, and some of those games have come and gone, but the ones I remember from my childhood I will probably never part with.

  • First game I bought back in the day was castlevania. my brother and I played the death out of it and when we finally beat it (actually heres a funny story: I called the nintendo hotline when I first killed dracula and the demon burst out of him and nailed me. There was this rumor getting around my school that you needed to grab a stake to kill him properly. The guy on the hotline was nice enough to explain my whip would do the trick just fine) I remember being so thrilled yet sad that it was over...
  • simon's quest... don't have it anymore though.

the music for this is amazing. Minnibosses and The Advantage do good versions of some of the level music.

I remember using some sort of novel with tips on the gameplay in the story or whatever to beat this when I was a kiddy.
  • My first game was SMB/Duck Hunt, which came with the Action Set.
I got my NES on my 9th birthday, the best day in my life. image
  • I never actually had Super mario bros/duck hunt as a kid because my parents bought the Control Deck release that came with no game. My first NES game was actually a 31 in 1 famicom multicart with adaptor. I had no idea at the time that it was a pirate and never considered that it was very different from all other NES games. I think it was an excellent 'game' to start out on and I still have it today. Go old threads!
  • I was a Genesis/SNES kid growing up. My first games for both systems were obviously Sonic & Super Mario World.

However, I got an NES when I was about 8 and my first game was Excitebike.
  • I don't have any of my original hardware or software. I traded it all in before I started collecting seriously, but the first two NES games I owned were Pro Wrestling and Kid Icarus.

  • First game would have to be SMB/DH, but the first game I ever bought myself was Donkey Kong Classics. I remember taking forever to pick one out and thinking I got the best deal because it was two games in one.

I don't have the heart to get rid of any of my old games so I still have them all, even though my mother as well wrote our last name somewhere on all of them. I still have and use my original toaster too.
  • i beleive it was tmnt, but i was like 8, when i was like 16 i found a nes in one of the rooms in my old house with back to the future and dd 3. i actually liked bttf
  • Mine was R.C.Pro AM. I still play it all the time
  • My first game for the NES (not including Super Mario Bros.) is Metroid. I think I made a good choice.
  • I still have all the original games CIB from when I was a kid (Thanks mom!) and they're one of the favorite parts of my collection. I'm not sure which was the first...probably SMB or LoZ.
  • The original games I had growing up when I was a small child were: SMB/Duck Hunt, SMB3, Mega Man 4, Dr. Mario, and Bug's Bunny Birthday Blowout. I have no idea what happened to Dr. Mario. When I got back into the old school gaming (mostly through the resale business) I sold Bug's Bunny and SMB/DH. The MM4 and SMB3 had far too much sentimental value for me to sell. I have hung on to those games to this very day, and they remain my two favorites.

I didn't own many games for any system I had growing up. My parents would never buy games for me except for birthdays and Christmas, and the even rarer good report card. Games were pretty much far too expensive for me to afford on my meager allowance. For the most part, I would rent games. Mom took me and sis to the video store, said we could get one thing each, she got a movie, I got a game. But the few games I did have, I became very very good at.

By the time I was playing N64, I would usually play or borrow games from friends too. It's great now because I can have and play just about any NES game I could possibly want. They're cheap for the most part. It still mystifies me how some people would have so many games at $50+ a pop. Just having 20 games can amount to over $1,000.
  • My son and I purchased our NES for $8 at a swap meet back in August last year. When we got it home, we were delighted to find Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers still in the deck. We figured the game would suck but at least we could use it to determine if the system worked. The good news was that we got the console to work. The better news was that Rescue Rangers is really fun - our first NES game and we do still have it. I am with Gavmaster - I would rather have 20 NES games than 1 XBox 360 game (they would both run you around $50 and the NES games are just more fun).
