Threaded / Folder organized inbox

Ok, I like the system now, don't get me wrong. However I find managing my inbox difficult. I try not to delete things for reference but end up with thousands of old messages just scattered by user. I thought about it a little and was wondering if there was a way to add a topic to PM's to thread them so instead of having several hundred messages from a user you have a handful of topics by user. Like if I message SuicidalParrot about a sega game I could put the name of the game in the topic and know later exactly where those details are.

I could be wrong but as far as I can tell the current system just marks things read, unread, or moves them to trash. If I'm missing something please let me know, but if I am right here on this who else would like to see something like this implemented?

  • I kind of like your idea about threading by user, or features similar to that, but there are current options where you can make folders, which kind of addresses what you're talking about.

For example, I have a "completed trades" folder where I move completed transactions and PMs, and I have a "pending" folder for pending trades, and an "archive" folder for conversations I want to save for whatever reason.

When you go to your inbox, click on "Manage Folders" at the top, and you can add folders from this screen.

Then, when you select various messages, you can move the selected messages to the folder of your choice.

    Hope this helps!
  • I would love this. I mentioned this to Dain at the campout. He said it is something he would like to do, but it would require a complete re-write of the PM system and he would need to make sure nothing is lost in the transition. So, it would be very nice, but unlikely since he is his is basically a one man show and a very busy dude.
  • Nothing to say here.
  • I never knew about the folders until now. I just spent about half an hour going through all of my ~800 messages and organizing them into folders. I made one for general Chat, one for completed B/S/T, one for "other" and one for Sqoon -- lol. I never have that many deals going on at once so I'll just leave pending transactions in my inbox.

It still feels a bit messy though. One thing I noticed is, if I tried to look at an old PM from someone, I click on it, and it takes me to my conversation history with them. If you have a ton of messages with someone it can be hard to see what they were talking about without hunting down where that message occurred.
