Top Loader video problems

Hey picked up a NES Top loaders today and when I hooked it up and tested it the game comes on the screen but looks glitched like a dirty game. Not sure whats going on tried cleaning the game, changing the RF, Changing the AC adapter, and cleaning the pins inside. The game comes on the screen with sounds and sounds like its loading fine. Like in Mega man 3 I can here the music come on at the menu and everything. Double Dribble starts up with it yelling its name and then doing the slam dunk. Seams like everything is working fine but the picture. The picture looks like the game is glitched anyone have this problem? I can make a video also

  • Every time i have a problem with the video, it is the RF adapter. Try wiggling it around on the cable port, and if that doesn't work, try a different RF adapter.

  • I tried 3 different ones and one of the 3 is the one I use on my front loader. The RF connector is also tight. Does anyone know how to test the port to see if the port is bad?
  • Did you try switching it back and forth from channel 3 to 4 a bunch of times?

Try turning the rca plug on the jack back and forth too, tight doesn't mean not corroded or oxidized.

Also look down in the connector for bent pins or crud etc.

If nothing works and you can open it up I can show how to test for good composite video coming out of the ppu, that would prove the rf modulator is bad or that the ppu is bad if its still scrambled.

If the ppu is bad I can swap it out for you, I charge $15 to diagnose problems, $15 each for cpu or ppu swap and $10 each for sram swap.
  • Thanks for the reply I do thinks its the sram or ppu or both. My system is doing the same as this one I was going to attempt this repair my self but im not sure if I am going to be up to it. So I may take you up on your offer.
  • Yeah if your graphics look like that vid then it might be a chip.

  • Still have not got anywhere with this thing lol. I have switched the cpu the ppu and the two 16k sram at the top near the pins. Still not working and all chips came from two working NES systems. Not sure where to go now any help would be great...
  • Clean them better with Weimans. Sounds like a dirty game/connector combo to me.
  • All games work fine on other systems so I think it's not the games. The pins where very dirty but I have you cleaned and anything I could use to clean the inside. So I don't think that could be the problem... I could be wrong lol but I don't think so
