3 Tales of...games, Skies of Arcadia, Golgo-13 CIB, Band Bros DS, Faria w/map, Kirby GC, Zelda guide

Moved back here later in October, but have been in stupid bank/lien payoff hell trying to move in and just paid into it on Tuesday.  Decided today to swing around to the flea market east of here then a couple local spots too after.  I feel I came away with a few little gems.  A local shop kind of all purpose media has games, came away with an immaculate Dragon Warrior IV for $40.  Also hit up a chain people know of -- Half Price Books, found GI Joe for $20.  At the indoor flea market at one spot for $30 I got Gradius Galaxies GBA-Sonic Blast Man SNES-Sim City 2000 SNES too, and then heading out another vendor had SMAS+SMW for $15, but I bagged it for $10.

Before that while being homeless squatting on a couch for 3 weeks HPB treated me well as I got for $1 Tetrisphere, $1 for Nightmare Creatures(n64) and $5 for Congo's Caper on SNES and $10 for Mazes of Fate GBA, and then at that other shop I did find Grand Theft Auto Advance CIB+map for $10, $7 for Sword of Mana, and $3 for Wing Commander Prophecy GBA too.

I don't usually drop a c-note in a day but I couldn't resist. FInally got pics of most of this stuff on the first post.

  • nice pick ups tanooki. glad to hear your off the couch and into a new place! these games are like a little housewarming gift to yourself take care man
  • Thanks. Dragon Warrior IV was the big one to me I splurged on. Been wanting it quite awhile, actually too long going back into the late 90s but the then local retail joker wanted $50 so I let it be and always have. Went back and forward over the DS game and bought one on ebay before the move and the jerk tried to steal my money and commit mail fraud since I got one for $46 with all the papers, then lied in feedback about my comment of having no forwarding address. When I saw that in the store and for that price I had to get it and it works great and looks like new.
  • Dragon Warrior 4 is an awesome rpg for the Nes ,I had a CIB one awhile back but I sold it along with my other CIB Dragon Warrior sets for the Nes.
I love the fact in DW4 there's chapters.
  • I agree entirely. It's why I have just 1 and 4 currently. 4 to me is perfect with the lack of time I have and the baby around. The chapters are very well scripted, fun to play, and they only take a few hours each or so. It's like they stand alone so well they're mini-RPGs unto a bigger back end adventure.

Tried out the pile of stuff last night, got hooked into the NES titles and Sonic Blast Man of all things(underrated.)
  • awesomeness!
  • Welcome back to Louisville. Dont be swoopin in and taking my finds though! =)
  • Jackpot. Sorry gizzy I swooped, Preston Hwy store did fine by me today, and the 3DS game at HPB.

I hit up 2 retail stores in the area. The first I don't do often as it's clear across town. I took in a few DVDs and some lowly sub $5 value GBA games (6) in and got $35 in credit which turned out to get me: Killer Instinct Gold, Turok 2(gray), Turok Rage Wars(gray), Destiny of an Emperor w/sleeve, Jackal w/sleeve. Then I dropped $20 at half price books, got a copy of Mario Kart 7 which is like $15 off the used rate elsewhere so I'm happy. Oh also at that other shop, bagged 2 nes controllers in that credit too.

  • I love Half Price Books. They don't get the rare stuff, and they have questionable pricing at times, but you can get lucky at certain moments as I did a couple hours ago. Some new stuff hit the floor today, left a good bit of things, but I did pick off 8 $1 titles and then paid a little more for 3 others and it's all NES and GBA as you can see below. I didn't take a pic of the receipt ($25.41 w/tax), but the over $1 titles were Top Gun 2 ($5), Pokemon Pinball Ruby & Sapphire for $7, and Batman for $4. All the others were $1. Top Gun 2 I already own as a cart alone, but considering the box has only very minor damage, game was 'new' clean and when I opened it there was 0 wear on the pins, and still smelled factory fresh too, no rubs on the plastic either. It has all the inserts, even the win a game thing, projection tv warning, all there. I know it's only worth like $10+shipping but I was happy to nab an old favorite like that. I know the games aren't worth a heap but you can't go wrong at a dollar. Click below to blow em up, didn't want to pic bomb the thread. PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket Photobucket
  • so wait, you got a turok rage wars gray in the wild ?
  • Yeah I did technically 'free' but I had some store credit on some pretty crappy DVDs I couldn't get a buck at elsewhere and a few $1-3 ebay style GBA titles after fees/shipping which racked up $35 in credit. The game was marked $4.99 as were all those NES/N64 titles plus two not shown NES controllers(real, not knockoffs.) I got out the door even with no cash exchanged that day.

Today's post it was $25.41 with tax on all in that set of four pictures. I'm keeping all of it but Robo Warrior and RBI Baseball as they're not my thing after trying them out.
  • HPB loves homeless people? Maybe that's why I can never get anything from them.
  • Well for me I find my fun stuff mostly in the clearance dollar bin at this chain and not consistently and I'm talking now and 3 years ago+ when I was here. You can see in this thread from the top post what else I've hit there as far as the old goes. If they do get in those special games, it's probably not that often and snapped up fast. There's a really cool local chain here that pays very fair on trade value on stuff so they tend to get the nicer items.
  • Well I've been busy the 4~ weeks and scrounged up some nice stuff locally, online here and on ebay. Again I'll go with the small images you can blow up if you care to. I didn't shoot a few smaller items though. Thanks go to both ag1052 for a 3DS Circle Pad Pro and both FF1 maps for $20. I also traded ookii_risu a Konami GB Collection cart+SuperGB w/guide for the Dragon Warrior IV Tokuma guide(very nice.) Found Ironsword for a couple bucks locally too and for $1 a Tiger Pocket Arcade Sonic 3D Blast LCD handheld. Locally I came up with Abadox and Shadowgate in the box for $10/ea. NES Open Golf too.

And then a couple days later for $20 again, Tetris and King's Knight CIB.

I found these for $15 total at a shop, that controller is pretty nice:

At the flea I found most the boxed stuff (abadox and shadowgate aside) I got for $12 this stuff and the tray in the second image. Also not shown are 5 NES sleeves.

    PhotobucketPhotobucket

Online via ebay I found a couple sweet for me purchases, such as Arkanoid CIB for $65 shipped, and then 8 CIB games for $80 shipped, but oddly(not shown) the dude put in a Kings of the Beach and Rollergames boxes in there as packing material?!

And finally my NA trade I saved for last, huge thanks to jnovo79 on this one. One of these has bothered the crap out of me for years due to the price of it, hate I had to part with my original I had a book with about a decade ago due to layoff issues, but I'm happy. Cost me 6 PAL SMS games, G&W Climber and $30 which was totally worth it for both.

That's it for now, but I have one more big item coming in the mail hopefully soon.  For those who have had me figured out a bit for awhile here probably see some of this as quite out of character right?
  • One more post for now and that'll be it probably for awhile again. Bought this just a few days ago and it arrived quick from up north in the states. Set me back $180 and it's worth it to me. Loved this and wanted this sign as far back as the early 90s. Who knows how many of these have survived this long and in such great shape. That is the great side, the other almost as nice but has just a few scratches (nothing ugly.) There's no holes, dents, dings, or cracks in it anywhere and the ring up top and space above it show no sign of this ever being hung up.

What would you all do with this? Lean it, hang it, or nail in a wall and mount it? I'd like to do whatever would keep it in the nicest shape and well out of the range of 1yr old hands of destruction.

  • Very cool looking sign.

I hung mine using a  black long wire tie  with a knot on the end (you can also use sting or fishing line)  tough the hole then wrapping that around a nail. Because of the shape of the sign it does not sit flat against the wall. The bottom protrudes out slightly.  I could probably use a longer nail to solve that but, it on on a carpeted cement foundation wall so getting nails to stick is not easy.

Great deal too. One seller had 3 or 4 of these at least selling for $250+ last summer. I eventaully got his last one  for $220  in excellent condition. (I guess he saved the best for last )

Awesome Jeff, congrats on getting that! I actually told Gabe to bid on that exact sign, he was the one bidding against you haha. I have that one too and I just hung it up via the hole on top. I've had it for a year now and I check for any stress marks or damage from hanging it that way routinely. Looks good so far.

  • Haha no shit Gabe eh? Funny it's like competing at the flea market again for stuff.

So really hanging it as intended would work best either from a ceiling hook or on a wall and just let it dangle away from it a little. I've got a good line of fishing wire I could use and the old owner of this place left a lot of hooks around.
  • Today though, interesting odd and unique mix from here and Japan. This all came except for the 3DS game from the same flea market. Dropped $15 initially got the Reality Quest 'The Glove' N64 controller, Performance Tremor Pack(I didn't notice was in it), and a boxed and lightly used Naki Pro Fighter 6 joystick (SNES+Genesis, has save memory for button combos you make...anyone know what it's worth, it's not even on ebay past or present listings.) Then in this ripoff spot where old carts go to die or be well over paid on, oddly the woman had something new...
  • Other than that one post a week ago I figured I'd do another as I've had an oddball run of some really quality stuff fall into my hands in the last week so I snapped some pics.

Kirby's Return to Dreamland from a dying blockbuster for $29. Daigasso! Band Brothers for $10 a week ago along with Tales of the Abyss for $15 (had $10 in credit to get it there.) And also I nailed down for $64 shipped(had 6 in ebay bucks to get it there) Faria with the Mail Away Map, game has not a mark or scuff on it, other than two little markings on one side of the map, equally nice!

If you check my signature I've made a huge high quality PDF of the map if you're needing it.

Then in the last 2 days I've hit it well with of all things, Gamecube stuff. I had some trade credit at a local store, ended up they got in an immaculate copy of Cubivore in, and well it was free for me! Then at the same time I grabbed a nearly as nice copy of Godzilla for $6. Then today I got 4 more nice things too. $70 for the pair -- not a mark on the discs, someone was super careful or bought and stared at the games but I got Tales of Symphonia and Skies of Arcadia Legends. Then for $10 I got a CIB copy of Golgo-13, and yet another tales of...game, this time Tales of Phantasia for $6 on GBA. And I got free from my nephews the Zelda Twilight Princess guide for the GC version of the game.

Think I did nicely this go around?

  • Nicely is a nice modest way of saying it.

There are still dying Blockbusters? I thought they were completely gone years ago.
  • This thread...should be called Tales of Tanooki!!!!! Ha ha ha haaaaaa..................
  • Hah Tanooki Tales...

Thanks...and I hit a personal decade old white whale of sorts, it's not high dollar, it's just never local today, a 2-fer from two locations. I found for just $20 in mint shape and complete -- Doshin the Giant PAL-Gamecube! And then of course you'd need that original release of the 'Freeloader' and well, I knew where to get one of those too for a low $20 (they get spendy.) Damn that game is fun and worth the wait. I messed with it once before 2005 and hated not having my own.
