I suck with shipping calculators, and am wondering is someone here can help

I'm trying to sell my copy of Ultimate League Soccer, and have a pending offer for it. But before I decited to accept or decline, does anyone know how much it would be to mail a CIB NES game to Canada? I'd probably mail it in a box, but don't have a clue how much it would cost. Does anyone know or have a estimate of how much it would be? Any answers would be greatly apprechated.

  • You can send it in a small flate rate box for about $16. I find that to be the safest and easiest way.
  • first class international in a box for about $6.60

  • Typically, when I buy a single CIB from the States, it's either $5.75 or $9.15 for USPS First Class (no tracking). I think the first price is when you use your own small box, and the 9 dollar option is like a flat rate small box (not 100% sure on that though). If you want tracking, you gotta go with Priority which usually sets me back about $23.

    ^^^This

You don't get any tracking with small flat rates anyway, so you may as well save the extra ten bucks.

  • Here's a question.....

How would you go about shipping a game worth over $500 to Canada? Or 20ish games worth $1500+?

Send via USPS Priority or Express since those methods have tracking and insurance, and make sure that it's insured for the full value. You can also declare it at like 50 bucks and as a gift if you don't want the recipient to pay customs fees.

  • Thanks for the answers everyone. They really helped.
  • First class isnt covered by ebay seller protection

Edit- That is of course if it's through Ebay

For here i ship first class in a flat rate box wrapped up for 6 usd like mr pats said

If through paypal I would strongly not recommend you send over 250 worth of stuff in a shipment. It requires signature confirmation through paypal. Sometimes express mail is proof enough in cases but its easy to lose a paypal case since you cant get an international signature for something like that.
  • just fyi, you can upgrade any package to "registered" status, which provides full tracking and signature confirmation on delivery. it's an extra $12 or so for first class international.

there are actual limits however, and I believe its not tracking for ebay. i could be wrong on that one, but ebay has no registered mail option. its a seperate thing you have to do in person at the post office. If you are a top rated seller you have to have tracking uploaded within 1 business day, and I dont think its the same. Registered mail provides electronic verification which might not be acceptable proof for paypal signature. When I read about it, it said signature wasnt required in some countries so be advised. Its not a dream solution for everything. Only works on first class international which means it limits it at 4 pounds.

i also think only first class sized packages can do it. padded mailer, tiny box etc.

The main thing though is signature return is not required, so it does nothing for paypal protection if its not signed for, and some countries cant even do it.

  • The post office fucked me. I mailed out Ultimate League Soccer out about three weeks ago, and it ended up costing much more than I was expecting to ship but that didn't matter. They didn't say there were going to be any problems, and today I get this in the mail

I had both mine and the buyers address printed on the box to where you could read everything. They didn't give me one of those forms to fill out saying what was in the box, so maybe thats what the problem was. But it's still bullshit either way. The buyer had to wait almost three weeks for a game that now isn't going to come, I'm going to refund his money later today and already sent a PM saying sorry and telling him whats going on.
  • My post office has those customs forms (along with other various forms) out in the lobby. Did you take your package to the counter to mail it? I'm surprised the clerk didn't say anything. They are supposed to stamp the customs form and stick it to the box.
  • Yeah the post office clerk shouldn't even accept the package without the custom form. If you shipped it without that form that was your problem.

I took it along with a few other packages to the counter to mail. The last time I mailed to Canada they handed me a customs form to fill out, and until today I didn't think anything about not filling one out when mailing the game.

I didn't think anything about it, and didn't know not filling one out would cause this to happen.

On padded envelopes under 1 lb you used to not need them, but every "parcel" does, regardless of weight.

When in doubt, fill out that form.  I'm also surprised that the clerk allowed it to go that far (or the post office for that matter).

  • Yeah, wow, USPS definitely screwed you. If you lost out on shipping costs, I would go to the same Post Office and explain the situation - do you have the receipt by chance? They shouldnt rely on the customers to know about the required paperwork. I would push hard for a refund or to re-ship it with the form...

I do have the receipt, but don't think it would make much of a difference since it was almost a month ago. It ended up costing $23.25 to get the game mailed, and it didn't even make it to the buyer. Bullshit.

I've been trying to keep karma happy, and do good things when I can.  Maybe karmas paying me back for something, who knows.
