Question about receiving paypal payments

Hi guys-

I recently received a paypal payment from someone several states away for an interactive kiosk I'm selling.  What kind of protection do I have as a seller that he won't open a dispute after he drives home with the kiosk?  It didn't say gift in the paypal payment--it just said 200.00.

Should I write up a mini contract stating it's being sold as is, that the buyer is receiving the kiosk on xx date, etc?  What  can I do to provide proof of purchase--take pictures of him driving away with it?

I've never had a deal like this before that didn't involved straight cash.  Just curious!  Thanks everyone! :-)

  • I don't know exactly how I would handle this one my friend. I would be weary too, he may be legit but if he is driving that far and not paying cash I would be a little worried he might try to pull a fast one.

He could have just as easily asked you to hold it for a few days while he transfered the PP money to a bank account for him to take out to pay with cash.

I would take every precaution that I could think of, pics as you said (I would get a pic of it in his truck w/the tag number), and also a written agreement with a signed signature and also a printed one by the buyer.

I know I probably have not been of much help but I wish you the best and good luck.

  • I would give paypal a call and ask them what proof you need.
  • Thanks for the suggestions guys--I just went ahead and refunded his money, attaching a message to bring cash Saturday. As it is, I'm selling the kiosk for 200--which is a pretty fair price in my opinion, considering it's in near perfect condition. Talking to him on the phone, he says he has a few kiosks already--and mentioned one that was for sale in Arkansas that I almost bit on myself. It doesn't add much, but makes it slightly more credible. The other question marks arise from the way we've communicated thus far...from his first message forward it was constant confusion, empty promises, etc.

    Thanks for the help guys!
  • Just a follow-up....he just called me to ask why his paypal gift payment was refunded with the note. I explained that it wasn't personal--just trying to cover my liability as well. He said he would call me back later to discuss other options. My only viable option is cash at this point. I'm going to write up some kind of as-is agreement for him to sign as well. I don't know what else I can do, really.
