Big Box Surface Mail Concern

I recently won an auction for two big boxes of games that will be shipped via ecconomy surface shipping. Says it will take 2-3 months and I was wondering if there's any red flags about this? I've never bought stuff in this number before and was wondering if it's a safe thing. Coming from accross the pond. It's a bunch of CIB games and they just seem to be in the box, will they most likely be crushed in the shipping process?

How will I be able to file a dispute/claim if it's longer than estimated time? Seeing as you have 45 days to file one after purchase. Anyone have experience with this and know if it's reliable/unreliable? Any input would be nice.

Thanks in advance!

  • Have you already paid for the items? I'm not sure about this as I have never bought from overseas etc but I think that I would ask for a shipping method that would ensure delivery before the 45 days is up, just to be safe.

I know I've not been a lot of help but good luck!
  • No I haven't just won them within the last hour and came here since I know some people have lots of experience with buying/selling bigger lots online. The other one is EMS, which will cost an extra $200 per auction box (there's two).
  • Ok, changed the title and such to be more accurate to my concerns.
  • anything overseas shipped surface really does take 2-3 months. I had one box from Japan shipped that way. Everything arrived ok with minimal damage. Surface shipments are sent via shipping containers on a long voyage across the ocean via boat. They take their sweet time. I know a guy here that buys PCs in the US and ships them via container w/e country hes from and he says its usually takes 1-2 months at least.
  • Did the one you bought come with any packaging? Or was it just the items in cardboard box and nothing more? From the pictures, he has the games all in a box in rows, I'm just afraid that they will get damaged along the way, but more so that I'll never receive them. They're all CIB and look to be in G-EX condition, and I'd like them to stay that way instead of getting a cube of recycled paper all bunched together.
  • All i can say from experience is trust what your gut is telling you.
  • Well the guy has 130 feedback (100%), which is kinda low for someone selling bulk items like this, at least from what I see on ebay. He has no more items for sale, and hasn't responded to a few messages I've sent, one asking for the list of games, and another if he could add bubble wrap or something to the games so they don't crush each other. What do you guys think?

mine was a bunch of Saturn imports and there was minimal packing materials inside.   little bubble wrap but each one was not protected as they should have been.
  • So are they comparable to Super Famicom games in terms of casing and strength?

saturn games are plastic jewel cases.  If your getting shipped a bunch of cardboard boxes without padding I wouldnt be surprised to see some damage
  • I bought some stuff from Lik-Sang a long time ago. I bought a game from them (GBA Famicom Mini SMB2 aka Lost Levels), then a month-and-a-half later, I ordered a mug with promotional credits. Both packages arrived on the same day two-and-a-half months later, totaling four months for the first package. Another time, I ordered Super Princess Peach DS Japanese version, based on a forum post I read somewhere that they were never going to release it stateside. A whopping five months later, I got the game, long after it had launched stateside, and I'd given up hope of receiving it. If I'd known then what I know now, I would have kept it sealed. There was a coupon code for Lik-Sang in the package which had an expiry date that ended more than one month prior to the package's arrival. It was that year (2006) that an evil corporation also known as Sony sued Lik-Sang into bankruptcy. Pity really. Shipping is actually much faster in today's market than it was seven years ago.
  • So you would recommend it as a reliable shipping method, as long as the buyer has patience? What do you think would happen to a box full of CIB Super Famicom games during shipping? Anything drastic or possibly just some bowing?
  • ordered a giant 4 liter hooggaerdenn glass form UK. took 3 months to arrive by surface shipping. everything came good with no damage but the glass was packed pretty damn good to avoid any damage.

its all a matter of how its packed.  The duration and transportation method are really irrelevant so long as its packed well and protected.  If he throws a bunch of cardboard CIBs into a box with no padding obviously they are going to arrive destroyed
