Fake Pokemon advance games?

Is there a way to easily tell if its a real version? I constantly see auctions for all five of the advance games for really cheap or on craigslist for really cheap (under $30 for all 5)  and its nearly always the full set, has anyone experienced this before?

  • Well thats probably because back in the day that's how popular they were? I know tons of people with real full sets. But just look at the label+case. Also make sure the PCB connector has ALL the holes before the connector. For some reason, pirate think it'd be a good idea to put holes ON the connector. Why that happens I have no idea, but it's common.
  • You can tell some of them are fake because the colours of the cartridges are quite blurry and look weird. Others you have to look at the board and make sure everything is real. It can be very hard to tell with some of them though, I have seen some fakes which look almost 100% real.
  • I didn't even know this was something common. Randomly someone posted on my local Craigslist today that someone was selling fake Pokemon GBA games.
  • Pokemon is probably the most pirated gba series around in terms of fake carts, they're everywhere. I know a local store that has taken fakes in on trades before too, so make sure you triple check before buying from anywhere
  • They're extremely common. Think about it: By the time the GBA was out, eBay was boosting in popularity. Unknowing parents bought their children Pokemon games online from bootleggers and, viola, we have a plethora of fake Pokemon cartridges floating around. Like Takeshi, I have seen several fake cartridges in local retailer's shops. Here's a source that details a lot of tell-tale signs of fake Pokemon cartridges: http://caggames.weebly.com/how-to-spot-a-fake-pokemon-gba-game.html
