Stereo mods for the NES 2

Ok I did the video mod for my toploader and now I figure why not pursue something better as far as audio is concerned. Right now I have dual mono rolling through the super nes multi out I put on there (broken Super NES).

So I found this site with a possible audio mod: http://www.raphnet.net/electronique/nes_mod/nes_mod_en.php

My questions are: Has anyone done this audio mod? If so was it worth doing? Has anyone found a better audio mod? Let me know if you have any input, thanks.

  • damn... that looks so good!!
  • The problem is that it's not a real stereo solution, he's just piping some of the channels to one channel and the rest to the other. Thing is these channels weren't designed to be split, so you aren't actually getting any stereo effects. In my opinion, while novel, it's not worth the work.
  • If you terrible, ear-crushing sound, sure! Go ahead and do a stereo mod.

ETA: That site is also the original place that I started reading on ANYTHING NES development related. When I started to mess with programming and trying to get ROMS on cart, I used his tool ReadNES. Well, I tried to. It never worked! I never figured out why, I just made my own instead. With that said, I have no clue how reliable this mod would be...
  • Fair enough, I won't bother. I really just wanted decent sound from akumajou densetsu since it sounds so bad. I will just do the resistor mod on a toaster and play it on that instead.
  • Why not do it to the toploader? You just have to jumper 2 pins with a resistor on the NES CPU.
  • I had initially thought it was only for the nintendos that had the expansion port. I've found some other threads that show otherwise. Primarily Drakon's that shows you use 2 1/8 watt 10k ohm resistors to pin 54 on the powerpak.

    I'll give it a shot.
  • Don't solder it to the powerpak. Solder it to the pin that correlates to pin 54 on the CPU.
  • Hahaha, yeah I had no intention of soldering it to my powerpak.
