Items from Ebay that Take Longer than 45 Days to Arrive

So I recently bought some boxes of Super Famicom games and they were sent via Surface Shipping, which was an estimated 2-3 months. I was wondering if anyone else has done this before? Is there a way that I can cover my ass if they never arrive and the seller is a scammer? Like open up a dispute/claim despite the fact the items arent scheduled to arrive in less than 45 days. I spent some decnt coin on them and I just don't want to be left out in the cold, nor do I want to open up a case against the seller if in fact he isn't a scammer.

It's kind of a catch 22 if you ask me, any tips?

Thanks!

  • didn't you already ask about this situation in another thread you started?
  • Similar yes, but I asked how reliant the shipping was in terms of the condition of the items. This I am asking about what to do since it will take more than 45 days to arrive, and I don't want to get burned from buying, but don't want to burn the seller either.
  • I would file a claim on day 44. If you do end up getting the items, just resend the payment with an apology, and maybe a suggestion for the seller to user a faster shipping service in the future.
  • Ok, thanks, It was my choice to do that or EMS, and EMS was $200 a box, a total of $400, more than i paid for the items to begin with. But who here would honestly pay that much in shipping for two boxes of games?
  • I see. Well it's still on the seller to be aware of shipping times and of the PayPal policy for that type of thing. When I sell things, I will ONLY offer express shipping for international because of this.
  • I have done this with some jeans from china or something. It took for freaking ever! I wanna say over a month or right around a month. Just got to be patient they sent me notifications saying where my package was and stuff. But yea it sucks.
  • I am as patient as they come, I just don't want two boxes to arrive with a bunch of shit inside, as well as not getting any to begin with. My first instinct was to file a dispute a few days before the 45 were up to be safe, and then give the money if the items arrive. I'm not a scam artist or anything, I'm just cautious, especially if good money is paid. If all ends well, I'll get the games, and he'll get the money, which is what i hope happens.
  • I'm inclined to side with the seller on this one. If you knew they were going to take up to three months to arrive, then it's on you to be patient. I understand the need to protect yourself, but this is clearly beyond the sellers control and you agreed this arrangement.

If you did you homework and checked feedback/talked with the seller, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. If you ever wanted to buy from this seller again I wouldn't do anything to piss him off. Good contacts over seas are hard to come by.
  • I know, he had 140 feedback, 100% positive. What if the items arrive in worse condition than described? I can't do anything then, or if the seller took some stuff out, lots of different factors go into this.
  • Obviously you are assuming the worst - People get scammed and stuff like that does happen, but lets be realistic. Most of the time if there is problem, the seller will either send you a partial refund or send you some free stuff - even if they aren't obligated to do so by ebay.

If you are an import collector, I certainly wouldn't burn bridges, you will probably buy from this seller again.
  • Yea, I naturally assume the worst, hard to curb that habit, plus I haven't done this before. I don't wanna burn any bridges or anything, I know it's hard to get imports from a steady source aside from the big foreign sellers.
