Best places to look for deals in a city saturated with resellers?

I find it absurd now that it seems whenever I go to the flea market, all the good games are at the kiosks where the prices are jacked way up (they probably buy every good game around before the public even gets access), and I've just never really found a 'score' in years.

Where else should I turn to look? Even local online classifieds are spammed with 'PAYING TOP DOLLAR FOR ANY VIDEO GAME' ads. It's all kind of sad.

  • Your best bet is to go to pawn shops and charity stores and hope they have put some fresh stock out. Also when at charity stores ask really nicely if they have any games or consoles out the back.

I live in a city full of proper collectors who buy anything valuable and re-sell it for crazy prices. These collectors go to op shops, pawnbrokers, markets etc. nearly every day they are open. They go when they open and in the afternoon or when it is about to close. I know what it is like.
  • yeah i see resellers going around in the early hours at flea markets all the time snatching up the cheap new games then jacking up he price at their booths....ive had good luck at cd wearhouse stores and head shops believe it or not you can find games at some head shops

Mate, I know the pain all too well of looking for retro games in Melbourne. I used to live in Perth, even worse!

I don't even really bother going into charity stores anymore. I don't think I have seen anything in one in years. I get tempted every now and then, but it is always dry. I know of a few resellers who even work or volunteer in some, so there is zero chance you'll ever find anything on the floor!

I haven't been to a flea market in ages either, but I imagine that they aren't much better.

Even Gumtree (the Aussie Craigslist) has mental prices, and most of the bargains are in the middle of nowhere; somewhere crazy like Toowoomba or Karratha.

I have found a few sweet sources, and have even resorted to reselling the odd thing or two to fund my collection.
  • At least your flea markets had deals to start with. The vendors at the markets in my area are nuts. The one guy is pretty fair, but the other guy is nuts. Don't even get me started on the dealer that comes to my university selling games...
  • Try expanding your horizon into games that are not well known most resellers know the classic games like Mario and zelda and don't know anything about the rare and unknown titles. Also look to other systems as well.

I used to go to Marche Jean Talon when I lived in Quebec City and yeh, I feel your pain. 60$ Cart Only Zelda. 120$ CIB ? WTF !?!? Yet they would sell Dreamcasts to me for 10$ + 2$ a game (pretty much any game).
