Meh I can't be out there every weekend and everyday, I still find decent stuff non the less! And who says craigslist is bad? I'll admit I've had my fair share of dumb asses. I had one guy selling a lot for 70 dollars that I had set up to buy, he got out of me that I'm selling a conkers cart and asked conkers plus 40 bucks. I turned it down and said I would rather do cash! He lost it calling me greedy and raised te price because someone else is interested. Guarantee whatever reseller shows up wont bring 80. At the same time I've dealt with nice people who give me great prices! (400 bucks for a boxed lot containing harvest moon 64, conkers both boxed and Zelda collectors sealed) just to name a couple eye catchers. The lot would easily grab over a grand here no problem. It's hit and miss, when u actually find something
Just about to head back into town and check out the local pawn shop, owner just called me to tell me they got some new guitars in, might as well check for games!
Many wise words, but i only have one. Dedication. You need to LIVE THE HUNT. i spend every sunday scouting and foraging through dusty crates and boxes at op shops and local markets. Recently i have nabbed some factory sealed games and plenty of nes, n64 and gameboy (color) games including 4 zelda titles for the private collection. I have found that long as you look, you will find. Some days you will clean up, sometimes you will come up empty handed, but when you find something good, it will make all the bad days worth while.
I've never used Craigslist before, but I have around 6 thrift stores, 5 consignment stores and 3 brick and mortar game stores that I hit once apiece every 2 days, and a flea market every couple weeks. I look for 4 things: Games/Accessories/Systems, CDs, DVDs, and vinyl records.
When it comes to the first category, I only like to buy if its 1/3 the general value or less. Most of the time, I'll keep the item in my collection, but on a rare occasion, I'll flip something I already have (or don't want) for trade, because I have a really good idea of what the values of things are. And depending on the quality (both "what it is" and condition) of the item, I usually know the best place in my neighborhood to bring it....
I don't like to pay more than 2 bucks for cds unless they're ones I know are worth more than 8-10 bucks. Gil Scott-Heron, Tom Waits, The Kinks, usually any Deluxe Edition. Same with DVDs. 3 is usually the most I'll pay, sometimes 5, like if its Criterion or Disney, or its worth 12 or more and I've been looking for it for a while, like Interstella 5555.
Vinyl's really tricky, and I have a lot in my collection, so unless its obscure or cheap(50 cents or less)/good/no scratches, don't usually find great deals.
But usually, its a routine. A straight line from my house through those outlets, picking stuff up, keeping it in my backpack. Dropping stuff off to trade for other stuff that I keep. Finding doubles in my collection. Selling overstock to pay expenses.
I could probably make a pretty good living off of this if I didn't like so much stuff (therefore keep so damn much) LOL!
I always go to second hand stores such as Cash Converters to find gaming stuff but lately seeing a SNES sports game is somewhat of a miracle, especially when they used to have massive NES lots (CBFD for 5 Fr, the 3 lolos for 5 Fr each or CIB NES stuff for 5 bucks were also bought there)
Otherwise flea markets usually don't have anything, but when they do, it's something awesome (Ninja Gaiden Trilogy for example for 4 fr).
You can also find deals on local craigslist-like sites, but most of the time its resellers.

If someone collects it, resellers are to be found =/ maybe we should just be gamers with a large selection from now on

I do a thrift store run after my shift at work.
But my best method has been consistency. Checking those thrift stores and being at the swap meet every weeked is what gets you the big finds.
If you aren't out there, you wont find anything.
May luck be with you all,
Happy Hunting
