Suggestion for new members....

I did not go through every single thread, but I did read all the titles so hopefully this isn't a reposted idea.....but what about not allowing new members to post anything for sale until they have a certain post count and/or feedback. I seem to be seeing a lot more new members posting sales threads within their first ten posts,or even their first post. This is an online gaming community which happens to have a sales thread, not some place to make a quick buck and bail..that's what ebay is for. Plus,it would reduce the chances of someone getting ripped off as well encouraging people to be truly involved with the NA community and not just camped out in the sales section.

  • I see what you're getting at, and it could be a good idea. But I think it'd ultimately fail. The waiting for a certain feedback wouldn't be fair, forcing them to purchase or trade to just that up before they can sell. As for the post count, I think it could (not saying it would) bring up just some more useless posts like "cool" or something along those lines.
  • I just entered my first two deals. One to sell, one to buy. The sell came up at random, but tomorrow I'll be listing more than 100 gamed on eBay/cross listing here. If I couldn't do it due to feedback, bummer, but all it stops is my deal here, not via Paypal. Lol.
  • I agree with every point made above. Perhaps when a new user conducts their first transaction, there should be a pop up leading to the FAQ regarding trading here (IE: person with lowest transaction number pays/ships first, etc.)
  • Yeah.I thought about that too. I know a few of the other sites I used to frequent did this for buying and selling and it worked for the most part even though you got a lot of new members complaining that they wanted to buy something in a thread but couldn't because they were new. I think on site wouldn't even let you pm or start any threads at all until you were a member for a period of time or hit a certain post count, moderator discretion.

Well,if they changed it now I would think anyone joining prior to the change would be fine. I would think it would be for any new member who joined after the change...hypothetically speaking of course. My suggestion wasn't designed to screw over new members, just to help protect the ones we have. I'm all for new members, but until a new member establishes themselves as a good, honest one....we have no clue if they are a possible scammer or not.
  • Its not a bad idea, and would make new sellers trust worthy. However some members might join only to sell, and doing this would turn away some good stuff.
  • If it aint broke...
  • ive made some sales, and they all have been very postive.
  • I'm not crazy about this, as mentioned some people come here to sell something and stay for the long haul. There's a guideline for dealing with members with less than 5 feedback in the FAQ which I like to follow - just ask the new members to ship first and get paid when it arrives.
  • If somebody wants to hit up this site and sell their collection for reasonable prices and then leave, is that such a bad thing? Paypal backs you as a buyer on non-gifted transactions.

There are of course the bad ones - that guy that claimed Tecmo Bowl was worth what, $20+? forget them. Trades are a different animal, but pure sales I have no problem with. Let it happen.
  • Kind of a double edged sword...if something like this got implemented, then the NWC finalists that come here to sell their memorabilia wouldn't be able to do it.

If you're dealing with newer members, just make sure you take the appropriate precautions such as not paying with gift, and having them send first in a trade (assuming that you're an established member).

If somebody joins just to sell overpriced stuff, they'll fade away pretty quickly anyway.
  • i've joined a forum where i had to have 50 post count to buy/sell and i honestly just surfed around looking for places to post so i could sell what i was selling and leave. Some people come here to dump off some games that were in there basement, NWC owners ,people that found it in a warehouse etc.

Don't really see a post count changing anything but more spam =p
  • ^^^^That's just dumb on that other board's part, especially needing post count to buy. I've sold to plenty of peeps here that have more feedback than posts. Their money is just as good as anybody else's.
  • ^^^It's the Neo Geo forum in case you were wondering. They were getting scammed pretty hard at one time, and they implemented those measures to help prevent it. Looks like it's definitely helped. I think the KLOV does it too now, although I ditched it because the site owner did something pretty shady to another member on there just to acquire a rare game.Actually the whole ordeal was shady...but whatever.

Either way I'm not trying to screw over new members, just trying to make NA even better. I was going to post a link to a textbook example of what I'm talking about where it's the person's very first post and it's a sales thread. (Not even an introduction post?! Come on dude!!!) ....but I'll let you find it yourselves.
