Maybe it was $2200. I was thinking it was over 3k. But still, cart goes for $100, complete it goess for 2.2k? Insane. Thing about atari is that it has a bunch of R10s while the NES has 3 or 4. I think they is a much bigger fanbase for the NES because it's what revolutionized the gaming industry. Without it, I don't think the gaming today wouldn't be what it is. I can see down the road a CIB SE going for 5k easy since right now I bet you it could hit 3k on the bay. I think Myriad will be up around 2k for a CIB copy before we really want it too!
yep, half of today's major franchises started on the NES.. I agree on its impact being enormous.
As for your last sentence, that depends on your perspective! I'm perfectly happy with it going up; could care less and in fact its kind of fun to watch since I have most of the big titles out of the way. But I feel sorry for those trying to plug in holes in their collection.
It will be very interesting if a few nice items make their way onto ebay in the next little bit. Market seems so strong that it could be fun to watch.

Exactly I don't want to pay out the wazoo for the rarer titles that I still need. Guess I had better get on the ball and get it all out of the way. Just within the past year, SE took a jump from $600 to $950. Only things I can really see staying the same in prices are CMII and Caltron. I think the Panesians will go up but at a slower rate since they seem to pop up on ebay more often than nought. CMII and Caltron are rare but can usually be found pretty easy with some digging.

Yeah. One thing I like about the way things seem to be heading is that the market seems to be getting a bit 'smarter.' I used to have no confidence in dropping a rare item on ebay on the basis that the market wouldn't appreciate its rarity. That definitely still happens on some items, but less and less so.
I don't know if its because of sites like this, or what, but people are starting to have a better idea of what completes should go for more.
man there are several 2600 titles that sell for way over a thousand. the answer software games, locjaw, out of control, pepsi invaders, river patrol, quadrun, mangia, all the bomb titles etc. then there are tons that sell for close to a thousand. im sure there are many threads on AA that would give a general idea
Don't count Atari 2600 stuff out...A NIB Video Life sold BIN for 5k earlier this year. even their R5's can get stupid...a complete Tapper went for $180 last week and a complete Ram IT went for $225 bucks in the last day or so. Complete atari stuff can be very hard to come by, even for the mid-rare items. Granted Atari, much like nes, has a few people who like to throw crazy prices at stuff.
Atari has also seen the recent rise of it's top titles, Pepsi Invaders, etc. Their cart only rares have declined a bit, but anything with a box has been going up as fast as any NES game.
man i saw about about 60 atari games at the flea market 3 weeks ago for $1.00 each but the only ones i knew to look for were tooth protectors and swordquest waterworld. man i wonder if i passed up anything good. there was a popeye in box too but i hardly ever buy atari unless its extremely cheap. Like a whole box of stuff for $5.00 or something. I should sharpen up my atari hunting skills. i hate the fact i could be passing up something good lol.
which brings me to my next thought, man im ready for a myriad to come up for sale LOL...

There are also some rarer titles (probably commons as well) that never came sealed. I guess they were mail in only or something that kept the factory from having to care about sealing them. Thinking about collecting sealed Atari, Bronty? lol You think you're dishing out money now for the NES, wait until you find those R8-R10s sealed and see what kind of dough you will welp over! lol (even though from what I understand a complete and sealed copy of the same game go basically for the same price; sealed games aren't as much in demand in the 2600 world as in the NES)
Atari's tough. Real tough. I studied the lists for quite a while and it's still lost to me. Everything runs together...the system's vague unless you've actually played the games; experienced them. Not a lot of cute characters and epic storylines to latch onto A hundred space games, all with similar names, endless ports of arcade games you think you heard of, but can't remember if they're rare or dirt-common. Variants of variants of variants, some of them very scarce (certain red-label late release games like Yars Revenge) and some of them dollar-bin-clearance common (the original black-label Yars Revenge!). There's picture labels, text labels, sears tele-games labels, and sometimes even blue paper labels. "unlicenseds" for the system (not really since it was an open-license, no copy-protection) all had different shapes, colors, and of course scarcities.
And when it comes down to it, after the hundreds of titles, counting to thousands of carts to collect after SIGNIFICANT variants accounted for, most of them are still relatively worthless. You pay out the nose on eBay simply because people who took the time to cherrypick them and be the only person to have them listed can charge a premium; few other people will take the time to do so.
In favor of 2600 collecting, it's extremely rewarding. The carts are small, robust and easy to store. They display marvellously, stacking or standing easily and orderly, and the art is really something else, strangely beautiful and certainly a lost style, very reminiscent of 70's sci-fi novel covers. Variants are truly different and interesting, some of the games are really pretty fun once you surrender to the "gee, everything plays like an early 80's arcade game" idea. Tracking down carts in the wild is relatively easy, and extremely cheap; people seem to know that the NES and SNES is valuable but they're aching to get rid of their 2600 stuff cheap.
I love my carts, pick up new ones whenever I come across them, but whereas I have my NES collection in my memory when hunting, I really need my PDA files when sizing up Atari stuff most of the time. There's just so many middle-of-the-road R3-R6's that only the most die-hard of collectors could be immediately familiar with on sight. I'm not bitching, I love it, I'm like that...but it's daunting!

oh god no. I really have zero interest in atari; I just like hearing about pretty much any collectibles market in terms of what's hot and not in the market.
In other words, he wants to know what to keep an eye out for so if he spots something cheap he can snag it and trade for stuff he needs I do it too sometimes, but mostly I just get stuff I want

Its not even that I doubt I will ever run across atari stuff as I won't buy it on ebay and I do virtually no hunting in the wild.
I just like hearing about collectibles man! 1930s pulp mags, comic books, original comic art, pez dispensers, wacky packs, movies posters, sports cards, whatever. Its just fun to hear about what's going on, doesn't mean I'm about to dive in A 1970s adams batman interior page went for $27k recently (a HUGE price, its the covers and not the interiors that go for big money), to me talking about that is almost as fun as hearing about video game stuff.
Although I if I do see something like that, damn right I will pick it up
I remember when the Myriad was the last NES game that I needed to complete my collection. I was pretty much determined to win it no-matter what happened. I'm kind of kicking myself for not buying a boxed one (just like other pieces of my NES collection). Goodluck Parpunk. If you really want it, I'm sure you will get it.

well, you could always buy a complete one and sell the loose one to partly recoup..
Myriad was my last cart that I needed as well. I bought a cart only for 500 from QB Bills on nesworld. Then I was lucky enough to get leonk's box and manaul about a year ago, presto changeo CIB Myriad.

matching #s, too, right? Amazing that you were able to match them up.
sadly no. I wish though. I "think" I have the contact info for the person who has the cart I need. I don't have the cash to offer to buy it right now though.

too bad Still, who really cares. You have all the parts.
Jason, couldn't you just offer to swap the carts straight up? Maybe throw in the shipping cost or something to sweeten the deal for the other party if they don't bite...
Yeah, offer to swap the carts straight up, and send him some extra cash or games for his troubles. Seems like the easiest and cheapest solution for you.
That would work if my cart was mint, which it isn't. It has some sticker damage which is pretty common on them actually. I may give it a shot, can't hurt. I do have to save cash though, I have something big in the works.
