Thats about as advanced as my daughter is at games right now    It is a game that also has a graphics bug in many NES emulators which is why she originally saw me play it.  I need a copy with a good label...

She is miles beyond me, sir. If I see a nice copy I'll snag it for ya.

  • Awesome. What are the six bare traces at the back of the board for?
  • Thats for programming the PIC, which handles the USB and inits the FPGA. Or maybe its the secret expansion port
  • yeah, fuck the retro vgs, ill pay 300 for this all day though!

Isn't the "secret expansion port" just the 51-pin Famicom header?

Or just use the USB for expansion needs (scoreboard, etc...)

Does this mean I can finally play my Minnesota Lottery Cart!?

For the boards, did those prices include assembly and all of the parts?

  • Yup! Boards is ~$200, chips is ~$450, and assembly is ~$350 for that first proto.  Doesn't include rent, patents, lawyers, lunches, PCB software, or layout time.

Did you also to forget the 'padding my wallet fee' and 'I believe my own BS fee'?

  • Love your work! I am relatiely new to this scene and community, but I wanted to let you know that I am holding out to see what comes of your AVS system. My interest is truly piqued. If there is anything I can do to help you move units online, let me know. I have an extensive background with PPC advertising and raising money with crowdfunding. I am truly excited to get my hands on at least 720p NES with RGB instead of composite. All I have done is read forums and do research and all good things keep bringing me back here to your name and website.
  • There's another $10k in rendering, $1k of green cardboard, hair cuts, and a kitchen table.
  • Did the babysitter work for free?

Rendering, eh? How much do you recon the RetroVGS team spent on all those fancy FMV publicity renders in 12 color schemes (or the software to do it if they did it in house, which I somehow doubt) that could have gone to prototyping?

  • They certainly didn't do the renderings themselves, it was http://www.delaneydigital.com  I have no idea how much renderings cost when someone else is doing the work.  All my models are in SolidWorks so it only takes a few minutes of messing with the lights/materials/colors to get something that looks ok.  There is also a motion button but I have no idea how to use it.  I prefer to show off things that are real instead of imaginary

  • I bet my friend Eric Henry would do some low low cost renders! http://echenry.com

We've been busy doing concept art for his Indie Star Trek film, Pacific 201.

He could definitely make this thing move.
  • This has me so excited It's all i ever wanted, more so than ever after the whole retron5 fisaco (mine broke the day i got it). The only thing that'd stop me throwing money at this is not knowing about PAL support, could there be a 50hz version, or better yet, a switch to switch between 50/60hz? That way i can play my 1 american import "Monster Party", my 120 odd other NES games are all PAL though.

Brian, this goes without saying, but that is a well made, professional quality system you've got there. Brand new parts is my primary reason for choosing yours over the Kevtris / Game Tech breakout mod. Consider me a day one buyer if the price is right. If not, I'll have to save up a bit... I'm wondering if you have retail partners lined up and have the necessary regulatory certs (FCC, CE, etc...)

Welcome to NA! Since it is all new parts, the FPGA is configurable for either PAL or NTSC. I have two PAL games, the 3-in1 Mario/Tetris/WC and Mario Bros Classic Serie (enhanced cutscenes) and while both run fine on my lockout disabled NTSC hardware, it would be nice to play them in 50Hz mode. My HD monitor supports this.

  • I have been trying to locate a local Delorean to take picts with, but this will have to do for now.  When picking the initial shape this one was called the delorean or spaceship.

  • Does it come with the flux capacitor?

Near my apartment there's a Delorean resto shop. Send me an AVS gratis and I'll take a picture with one.

HDMI runs on Flux Capacitors so i would assume so.

  • Just go to the future, pick one up when it's out, then bring it back.
  • image

    It's so beautiful!
  • Looks juicy.
  • Just wondering, with PRGE coming up, will these be available for purchase? I won't be able to go (too far) but these are looking good...
  • Looks great man, it sounds like everyone is chomping at the bit to get their hands on this (my included)!

Any idea when we can get a pic of the close to finished controllers?
  • I really hope I nab one of those golden tickets

Don't know if preorders will start then or not.  It will likely be a last minute decision.

Tooling is hopefully being made now, so it will be a few more weeks until I have samples of the gamepad.  Receiver will be a few weeks after that, my solidworks guy has a real job now...
  • Are you still going to have controllers with cords, or are they all going to be wireless now?
