Swiss banks have nothing to do with Sweden, they are located in Switzerland. Otherwise it would be a Swedish bank.
  • ^^Sorry my bad. My European geography is all messed up.

I was merely suggesting that most people wouldn't need a Swiss bank account if they have no business over there. Why are Swiss banks so popular with foreigners anyhow?

I don't have an account myself, but based on what I know and have read, basically the underhanded reasons you listed above plus the fact that apparently a lot of (most?) Swiss banks won't reveal the specific details of accounts to government officials.  The anonymity offered by the accounts being identified only by a number allows people to hide money in all sorts of ways, underhanded (money laundering, tax evasion, etc.) or not (making sure your relatives can't take all your money when/as you get older, etc.).  I personally don't see the need but can understand the possibility of wanting such privacy in banking/monetary affairs.

I know that feeling. Mine goes up in June. I'm going to buy the AVS, a flash cart, and then I'm going to spend all of June eating Ramen noodles.

For me it's more a long term thing. I have the option of moving across the street to a rent controlled building (my bad, in California it's "rent stabilization.") It'd be a higher initial monthly cost (and the cost of the move), but where I live the non-rent controlled places will be pricing me out before too long.

I actually live in Sweden, and right now I wish I had a Swiss bank account. Sold my apartment and got a house last year, but since I made a profit on my apartment I have to pay 22% of my profit in taxes this year... That's a horrible $35 000 leaving my account, gaaaah, and I could have needed that to fix the new house... Ehhhh that won't stop me getting an AVS day one

  • AVS is worth going into debt over.

    Me 3! Yay California
  • We could all live together. And play the AVS all day.
  • As far as I know everything is still on schedule for late May, but communication isn't their strong point! They should be sending a final unit for approval before shipping everything and I will have a few sent by air ($$$) for reviews.
  • So it May come out in May?

Be sure to send us picks of that 9'x9'x9' gaylord box when it arrives and you somehow get it off the pallet. Will you be shipping these out of your house or did you secure a storage unit or warehouse space somewhere? Please tell me you're keeping them somewhere secure. It would suck if that shed in your back yard got burgled or the roof leaked or rats chewed the boxes or something else equally catastophic happened...
  • Late may? Woohoooo! That's like, next month.
  • But what about the RGB values of the color pallete?

I believe the user have a menu choice to emulate the color pallet of a standard composite (NTSC or PAL) or RGB (Arcade, PC-10) PPU, obviously without the composite artifacts. Some people prefer the brighter colors of the arcade RGB pallet, but certain games that utilise color emphasis bits, grayscale mode, or other tricks, will not display correctly with the RGB PPU. Also I believe a couple of the gray pallet entries from the composite PPU look wrong on an RGB PPU.

One good reason I would never RGB mod an NES, besides the fact the chips are scarce. I feel bad for all the Duck Hunt PCBs that must have been destroyed to harvest those...
  • Will you be air mailing one to kevtris so he can post a side by side video comparison?
  • ^^I would love to see this, even if Kevtris is "competition."

Awesome! For those of us lucky enough to have received a Golden Ticket, what should we do?

There was an advance ticket (golden ticket)? Does that mean some of us won't be able to purchase one at launch? I'm hoping to get one of those limited edition bundles.

  • The Golden Tickets were included in (some of) last year's 8-bit Christmas cartridge bunnyboy's company sold. Some of the tix were for 10% off the AVS and a guarantee of the first batch of AVSeseses. I don't think it is necessarily needed to get a launch one. And I think the LEs are going to be separate from the main common model.

There was also a super duper rare 50% off entire site ticket. Did anyone confirm to have recieved it?

Most of the 10% coupons went to people who posted collection pix of complete set 8-bit carts. Don't seem fair to me but whatever. I now have 8-bit Xmas 2011-2015 in my posession. No more gaps, yay! '09 and '10 are quite spendy, and '08 is unobtainium. I doubt I'll ever own one of those...

Proof? Maybe you should have bought more than one. See "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" for further clarification. Also, bunnyboy said it was totally random, you're probably just unlucky but whatever.

  • It was definitely random. He had all of the cartridges pre-built with the coupons already inside them before any orders were placed. Then he would just grab a random cartridge without looking at it and boxed it up and sent it out. He never knew who was getting what.
  • Out of those who posted pics of their coupons, most did seem to have the full set. But it may have just been their enthusiasm to post the pic. Not indicative of how many other people also got the ticket. I wouldn't worry about it Dusty.

Anywho, ready for this thing. Still undecided on how to rearrange my systems now that I won't need this toaster on a lovely Nintendo rolling cart in front of my HD TV. Hmmmm.

Not everybody that shops at RetroUSB is a member here, so you have no way of knowing true distribution.

For the record, I'm not butthurt I didn't get a coupon. It's just that people who posted Xmas set pics had a drastically increased chance of recieving a ticket. Brian even stated there were two "piles", one for those with Xmas sets; one without. IIRC, nearly everyone who posted golden ticket pics here on NA either were mods or had a tree icon by their username.

But irregardless of this ticket nonsense, "< $200" is a very fair price to pay for what the HDMI NES offers. Last I checked the Kevtris HDMI pre-modded NES were selling for $399, and despite the bells and whistles like overclocking and expansion chip emulation, it can't switch between NTSC and PAL modes, and $200 for all new console with brand new parts is one helluva deal.

  • Shit i would pay extra just to get one at launch.
  • Everyone who had a full set and posted a pic got a golden ticket.

[golden] Tickets from the other pile were put inside random cards for both custom and default text.

added [golden] to make it less confusing.

  • EVERYONE who posted a full set got a ticket. It increased their chances to 100%. Full sets have gotten a free gift for many years now. If that doesn't seem "fair", you haven't been paying attention.

Nobody has said they got the 50% one yet. All I know is it left here, no idea who has it or if it was one of the full set gifts! Could be someone who never opened it, or even an ebay reseller.

Redeeming them will probably be just a partial refund after payment. Easier than trying to handle coupon codes As far as I know everything is still on for late May, which means the final sample should be leaving there soon. If I haven't posted about it in about 2 weeks then expect delays! The milling of the wood for the LLE boxes has started but I haven't decided on final handles yet. The wood branding iron turned out great: https://www.facebook.com/retroUSB/posts/1104161262996609
  • Well that settles that. I got mine just a wee bit too late! Can't wait to see what this year's bonus is!

Sucks the owner of the elusive 50% coupon hasn't come forward.

Yeah I saw the branding iron pic on Facebook. Those boxes are awesome! What kind of deal are you doing; how will pricing be handled on the LEs?
