  • Sweet! My money is ready and waiting! I've been waiting over 3 years for this, it's so close now I can almost taste it....
  • Awesome. Just saw this on the site: Vacation time! No order processing May 4th to 17th.

Might we expect a release come May 18th?
  • Definitely not, late June is the current target, and more delays are always expected.
  • I hope this means the units came out good though? No major issues with production and assembly?
  • So looking forward to this! Under $200 shipped with power adapter, hdmi cable and micro USB cord for powering the damn thing through your USB port in your damn tv!
  • Great tease! Can't wait!

Enjoy the vacation, bunny! I'm sure you'll have plenty to do when you're back.
  • I'm curious to know more about all those cool sounding launch games. Any info? And will that neato Batwing style controller be available at launch?
  • So I also see there will be a launch lineup of games. Super exciting, like the NES is releasing all over again! I love it. Any thought of a bundle including all the launch edition games with the system? Or maybe that's what will be included in the limited editions
  • Nice price!

But I'm shooting for the LLE.
  • Rad! I'm hoping to scrape together enough to snag a LLE, if possible, because I love that clear shell. But it's amazing to know the price is so reasonable if I miss out on the LLE (likely).

Thanks for the updates, bb! And for putting together such a groovy product.
  • You guys can have the LLEs, just give me one of the regulars.
  • International shipping is probably going to hurt, but I need one :3
  • Here's to one hundred pages of glory...

Day one purchase, and still cheaper than a Retro Freak premium that doesn't like homebrew...
  • Here's a short comparison video I did with a prototype I've had from bunny and an RF toploader.

It just occured to me. People have talked about jailbars on the NTSC toploader, and realised this was the first time I'd actually seen them. I always thought they were just barely visible, like the NTSC color artifacts or something, but holy effing cow! Are all toploaders that bad? My NES toaster and AV Famicom both have pristine composite output, in addition to clean RF on the NES. I thought it was just some barely visible moire patterns people complained about, but dang. I'm glad I never got one. How ironic the AV Famicom has the same or very similar cost cutting measures but rock solid clear signal?

It depends a lot on the TV set. I found on CRT TVs it wasn't very noticeable but on my LCD TVs it was pretty awful, especially on games with light blue (as seen in the demo!). But the composite mod sets it straight and it's super easy to do.
  • There's an article on NintendoLife regarding the AVS. Check it out:

The more hype this thing gets, the better!
  • I thought the Nintendo Life article was good. Sadly the comments section was pretty bad, most people are completely clueless as to what this thing actually is.

I'm buying one and I can't wait for it to come out.
  • What's the full package with all the release titles going to cost? I want the bundle discount right away! LOL

I left a couple replies at the bottom to straighten people out, though I doubt many of them will read my responses. I don't think people are intentionally bashing the console; they just don't understand what it is. Especially those comparing it to the Reton5 which is somewhat cheaper and plays more consoles. Good luck getting a homebrew that uses new flash mapper, like The Incident, to run on a Retron5 or Retro Freak.

Between my Retro Freak and AVS, I think I'll have a pretty good balance for playing old games in HD. Retro Freak seems to have better compatability with 16-bit homebrews and repros. It also supports TG-16/PCe.
  • I tried correcting some people as well, but there's only so much you can do. I don't blame them necessarily, usually these things are cheap clones with various bugs or incompatibilities, and I don't expect them to all read this thread.

Yeah upsetting to read those. I understand why they think the way they do. It's unfortunate some just aren't willing to look more into the product. "But I have a Retron 5, why would I buy this?" is a terrible reason. The fact that this works with EVERYTHING (homebrews, all accessories) while giving me HD is the reason I'll be picking it up and haven't picked up any of the other systems.

I just got a closer look at these launch games. Quadralords appears to be a reissue of Xmas 2011. Twelve Seconds has got to be Xmas 2015.

Solaris looks like a badass shooter (possible Xmas 2013 reissue???) and we have returns of old favorites Assimilate and Glider. I'm guessing A winner is You might be a Dpad Hero reissue judging by the guitar, and could Power coloring possibly be a homebrew clone of Color a Dinosaur?

Brian, do you plan on doing a discount bundle for people who purchase an AVS with the entire launch lineup? That would be awesome! Also what is the retail price on the launch games?

And lastly, why no more colored shells?
  • For me, I had been looking into an RGB modded NES for my toaster, but even then I'd still have the issue of those terrible cartridge pins bending. The AVS will solve both issues handidly, as well as give me Famicom support and the other extras.

Besides, I would kind of feel bad using a playchoice ppu, not that I blame anyone who does. Just seems sad they're ripped out of arcade boards, but I guess it's better than not being used at all.

I think most of them aren't really hardware enthusiasts, which is what the AVS seems to be aimed at. A lot of people are fine with cheaper clones unforunately.

Man they really don't have a clue...yeah most are from the emulation generation/been ruined by shoddy famiclones... It's their loss, more for us who'll actually use it :-)
  • It's their loss... You're right. These are going to set the bar so high, and a lot of those commenters will be eating emulated crow.

And yes boys, I'm back. Missed you all!
  • Oh please tell me Quadralords will work with 4 Vaus controllers.....

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't. Xmas 2011 did, but requires a four score modified with extra hardware. I'm guessing the AVS's built in four score mode comes with the required "modifications" out of the box, handled by the FPGA of course.

Yes. It's amazing how uninformed these people are. I am afraid if I continue to correct them, they may label me a troll.
