Just started thrifting, 2 decent scores
So I recently started thrifting on discount days that apply to me (3 out of 5, not 50% off day tho, lol) and got lucky last week.
Went into one place 10 days ago that I've driven by a few times and saw they have an art gallery, so I wanted to check that out. There was a sign inside that said "for electronics, see associate". The guy at the counter was cool and called back to the guy in the warehouse. I met him in the back and he showed me to the electronics "section" which was basically unsorted stuff. I dug and dug and found all sorts of controllers for random systems. Underneath a table with a bunch of milk crates I find a NES with zero damage to it, 2 controls, a zapper, 2 SNES controls, 2 gamecube memory cards, a SNES game genie, 2 games (Jet Force Gemini for n64 and Xtreme G for Gamecube). I had to dig around and couldn't find the original AC adapter but I did find one that worked perfectly.
Found a great condition copy of Super Mario/Duck hunt for my wife for 50 cents the next day at a pawn shop.
Total cost with the crate: $20 and the NES just needed a basic cleaning of the 72 pin. Works perfectly.
Second one was a few days ago, went into a Goodwill to check out the games, nothing at all but PC games. I head to the electronics section and saw something I bee lined it for. 2 others were heading towards it. I snagged a Dreamcast off the shelf with 2 original controls and all original adapters. Turned it over, 12.99. Gee, it's 25% off discount day with my work ID (local promotion).
Total cost: 9.74
Not too bad out of maybe 15 stops at stores so far. Too bad I can't get there when they open because of work. The games are all rifled through by the time I get there.

NO kidding, but you must have missed it as the vista goodwill had one within the last year, but it was the system by itself for $30. They next to it had 2 zip lock bags. One had the ac adapter, video cable, one controller, and a game, they wanted $20 for that, and the other $20 bag had the other controller, the zapper, and another game or two. When I saw that I was sure to let them behind the counter see the look of disgust on my face before I went on my way. The sad thing is, the bags got picked up eventually, the system didn't, it just sat and sat, probably bought eventually I guess and hopefully marked off that.
last time i saw one at a shop around here, they had it marked at $50, with only a controller.
same story with a 64, and there is NO way any of the shops would sell ANY game for under $5, kinda lame when they've got 2 dozen generic sports games.
that said, Sega stuff is plentiful and cheap, got several dreamcasts over the last 2 or so years for $10 or less, sometimes even with games/extras.
