Gamecube Component Cable for $5
Well, my Gamecube component cable's finally came in to Game Stop with their shipment yesterday. These are almost impossible to find at a reasonable price. However, I called about 5 local Game Stop's to see if they had a set, and they were no help at all. However, when I called the sixth Game Stop, the guy who answered the phone was very helpful. I explained to him how I had been looking everywhere and how I needed a set because I would never get rid of my cube, and he happened to be a collector of sorts. HE also enjoy's playing games from previous generations systems, and said he got his GC component cable a little over a year ago when someone traded theirs in at his store. He understood my dilemna not wanting to pay $80 to $100 for a set on ebay. So, he did something that none of the other GameStop's I called cared to do...He checked the computer for the closest stores that had a set. He found a store in the next state over that had a set and ordered it to be shipped in to his store for me. He said that the store didn't even realize they had a set when he called them and were surprised to find it. Anyway, it took a over a week to get here and I was startring to think that someone from GameStop had intercepted it and kept it for themselves, but it arrived last night apparently. Cost - $4.99. So, anyone who is looking for a set, I reccommend you call your local GameStop and see if they will search the computer for the closest store that has a set and see if they will order it for you. I was so thankful that an employee at one of the stores I called actually cared! They really are beautiful well made cables. They are clearly worth a lot more than $5 even if they were common!

ETA: I hope everyone that already has a set will leave this trick for people who don't who have been searching high and low for a set wth no luck. It would have totally sucked to have to pay like $80 for a set of these.

It's funny that the system is so cheap and common, yet these cables aren't. Glad I found them last week!
Apparently they did not produce a lot of the cables, as the majority of people had no idea what component was around the time they came out

If I'm correct, the only way to obtain the official ones was through Nintendo themselves, I'm not sure if they were sold in stores or not.

This is correct, at least in North America. I had to order mine direct from Nintendo.com -- they were originally $19.99

I've tried this before with GameStop but they didn't care to help. I found them in stores as well but couldn't get them shipped.
They will only ship them to another store if the store calls them direct. If you find them, have your local store call the store that has them and ask if they will send it. They are under no obligation to do so, but they usually will

Kudos to the employee going above and beyond. If you want to potentially help the guy, you should call customer service and give praise to him specifically. Customer service for big companies love to get calls like that since all they normally hear are complaints.
I did exactly that. Since I have no problem calling corporate offices when something is well below expectations to complain, I also make sure I do the same when something is above and beyond what I expect to compliment them as well. Seems only fair

Yeah, that's what I did and the other store said it wasn't worth their time. I did the same thing on fritz chess for wii. No luck.
