Do you got insurance for your games

Just curious? Do some of you have special insurance for your game collection??

I dont now how insurance works in the usa or in other countries?

What if it gets stolen or your house burns down?

picture this: my house burns down tomorrow! oh no!!! luckely we where not at home

But my collecting went up in flames

my rodland,gimmick,m82,starwing competition,cheetahmen 2,proto's just ad it all up: thats a lot of money people!

And some items are impossible to replace      proto's and stuff

Ya that would suck...luckily my collection isn't "uber" yet but stil...I do have starwing competition. And your dutch to! We should have a starwing tournament ;-)

Insurance does exist, but be careful to sit down and have a very candid talk with your provider. Find out exactly how the replacement cost is calculated, if they factor in depreciation, how collectibles are treated, whether they require proof of purchase or proof of current market value, etc etc etc.



If you try to get off cheap you can easily wind up being very, very screwed. And find out you've been paying into thinking you were safe, when in fact you were ill-covered. This goes for any sort of homeowner's insurance.

myself and my lovely wife factored into our home and contents insurance my nes/video game collection and even though I have a quite modest collection (as far as these forums go) I was really surprised to work out all my game stuff easily came to thousands of dollars...when I thought about the cost of insurance vs the cost of replacement it was a no brainer to get the cover I needed and happily foot the bill.

This was one of the big factors in making a business of selling games for me. My collection is more than 15,000 personal games alone plus over that many in store inventory. That number along with annual sales and I am able to buy games for my personal collection and the store pays for them makes my store insurance is around $1500 each year and that covers my personal collection at a reasonable amount to cover how much is invested in them. The really rare stuff fills a safe since they are considered unreplacable. Funny thing is my book Classic 80's Home Video Games is photo proof of owning each game along with a value that my insurance said I would need in event off fire.

I talked to my agent a few weeks ago about this same topic. He said to get a separate rider for the collection because otherwise it will be considered "old electronics" Nice

Yeah, anything above a certain value needs a rider anyway (whether it's expensive jewelry, musical instruments, whatever)

What's a rider?

Typically, with home owner's or renter's insurance you have blanket coverage up to a certain amount with lots of exclusions for specialty and collectible items. You add "riders" to cover those exclusions.



For instance, I have a saxophone that would cost about $4k to replace. If I want that covered up to that amount, I have to pay an extra $20/year, or so. Otherwise they would only reimburse a few hundred dollars.



This would also apply to collectors items such as video games, coins, or anything of that ilk.

Ive got a !0,000 dollar rider on my guns and safe. prob. need another one for my game collection. I think it cost between 10-20 a month but they bill my impound account like twice a year.

I will have to check into this. I am paranoid about either fire, break ins, or some asshole kids coming in and just destroying stuff for the hell of it. It is a pretty expensive lot of stuff just to be out that kind of money. Thanks Arch, you seem to know what's up.

I do kind of collect. But Im a trap, skeet, sporting clays shooter and those types of shotguns are very expensive.

^Wow. I dont think I know anyone in my general area who even owns one gun. When I lived with my dad we had a pellet gun if that counts We used to shoot pepsi cans with it.

BTW I do keep a couple of the expensive games in the gun safe. It is fire safe to like 2000 degress.

I dont even have that many guns IMO. My dad has 2 Gun safes and a locking cabinet. I would guess he has prob. 50,000+? in guns. Most to shoot targets. some Hunting rifles and a very few collector pieces. its not uncommon for some Competition shotgun dealers to have 250,000+ in their motorhomes.

My dad's best friend has a 2 story house, well full basement and main floor. The basement is basically like a safe door to get into it because the entire basement is his gun collection. He is on a Gun site like eBay all day long. People even bring him collections when family members die and he goes through them and buys what he wants and sells the rest on that site for them. Unbelievable really... he's a littl guy like 5 feet tall maybe that's why he started buying guns? But nicest guy you'd ever meet. You'd never think he has a better arsenal than Frank Castle himself!

Yeah, I know a guy like that with a decent size arsenal of 37 handguns. It's funny with a little guy has both 50-cal handguns It cracks me up even more that the S&W 500 can come with a 4 inch barrel so that it's a "purse weapon". Talk about a hand cannon!

I've actually been wondering about this for some time too. I don't have a humongous collection, but probably 3-4k worth just sitting on shelves. I also rent which makes me worry more about someone who might have an old key or something.

Didn't know that.  I guess living up there would require a shotgun or rifle to defend against the beasts of the tundra   Just like out west there are plenty of places that you would be stupid to hike without a side arm.

Most places where they don't shoot each other, they stab each other instead.

Currently I am uninsured but I did some research and made a few phone calls a while ago. This company quoted me at $381/year for $75,000 worth of coverage. Seems reasonable. I would have to prove the value of my games in the event of a flood, fire, burglary, or other natural disaster.
