Finding a "Let's Play" person to play and make a video of my homebrew?

Have any of you guys had luck finding someone to do a let's play of your homebrew game?

I'm trying to get find an experienced gamer to do a blind playthrough and make a

LP video of it so I can see how a someone completely new to the game reacts and plays, and how

intuitive the controls are.

Unfortunately the let's play forums I've been to are hostile towards any type of

"interest checks" or requests to LP a game so there is no way to enlist help on those

forums.

Emailing/PMing my favorite LPers has not worked either.

Any ideas as to how I could find someone to do this.

  • Most people with larger followings won't do it because they get a lot of requests, because them doing a LP of your game would mean lots of free exposure for you. If you wanted someone to promote your game via a LP you'd probably have to pay them.

However, if you opened it up here, you could probably get someone willing to do it for as little as a free copy of your homebrew (I'm guessing) but you would get minimal exposure from that.
  • What he said. Most "e-celebrities" are self entitled jerkoffs who need to be financially compensated for playing a game then talking over it.

If you are wondering, yes, I am the same one as here:

I'm not sure if that's quite what you're looking for, but eh. Good luck though!
  • Coincidentally, I've been seriously thinking about starting a youtube channel for homebrew game reviews, and homebrew NES stuff in general. I'll keep you in mind once I've got my stuff together.
  • I've been looking for something unique to LP after I finish the one I'm currently working on. That said, I have absolutely no following at all.

if you're interested in having me do it go ahead and shoot me a PM.

Well, why shouldn't they be compensated?

  • why should they... people with prototypes shouldn't... right :-)

Sorry to crap thread. But I hope you find someone interested in doing a LP for you

Because somebody asking for payment to do a review lacks journalistic integrity and their "review" is a worthless waste of time.

They get paid on the back-end from their channel being successful and giving them ad revenue (or selling merch, or whatever).

A reviewer being paid by the person who's product they are reviewing is pretty unethical.

  • I played through it just now. What would you like me to do?

    I've written reviews before.
  • Will have to try it on real hardware. There are lots of glitches in FCEU.

If you want compensated for your prototype, sell the prototype or game carts. The data on it isn't tied to any money, it's the cart.

But I've posted on this on NESDev, but yeah I'd say the best thing you could do is maybe just stat reviewing your own game. As word spreads, you will get more people viewing it.
  • Thanks for the offers for help all! I'm not really looking for exposure, it's more that I'm more looking for a video documented beta test playthrough all the bosses and commentary. Mostly I'm looking to see how someone gets through all the levels and defeats all the bosses. I have my own way that evolved, but it would be good to see how others conquer them.

I know the game is still a bit glitchy and rough and I'm working on it little by little. If any of you guys that make LP videos can overlook the glitchyness and roughness and playthrough the game it would be a huge help. So far Mog and Airrider have found and beaten all 6 bosses!

  • Im down to play this and film it for you and record live commentary as well. Send me a message and let me know what you would like me to do and I would be happy to give the game a try and provide you with feedback. For example, would you want me to do a complete playthrough video or edit it down. Either way it sounds like fun to me and I have the equipment to do so. I think its bullshit that people out there want to charge to make videos like this.
  • This game looks a lot like the Neotoxin homebrew prototype that I traded to Gwyndion... is this a ROM hack of that?
  • This game looks awesome!
