  • Would that amount equal the greatest known single item nes related transaction, the gold nintendo world championships cart? I seem to remember one of those selling for that exact amount.
  • Wow my Super Mint CIB SE looks like a great purchase now!
  • ah an $11,000 lawsuit now
  • $15,000?!? That's pretty humorous... who would intentionally feel like paying double for one? "Yeah, the last one sold for somewhere between $7-8K, supposedly, but I'll give you $15K just to be safe. I like paying double because I think the value will go up, and this is a way for me to start off with negative equity!"
  • ant... no lawsuit at all. the item didnt sell on ebay. no record of the sale. this is like a drug deal if it actually does sell, but i am doubting that it will. whatever!
  • If someone is actually willing to fly out for the "privilege" of dropping 15K on this game, I will eat my hat and give up boobies forever.
  • Well, in their defense, a CIB Stadium Events has not ENDED on eBay in years and years. All Along I have thought it would take $10,000 to get one at.

if the market wasnt so bad, i may just take you up on this! if i had $15k to drop on the game and enough to fly out to pick it up, i would take aaron with me to watch him eat his hat and take him to a free whorehouse where he wouldnt be able to look at or touch any of the boobies! haha

Yup, I sold my Gold Cart for 15k.

I too would initially think that the 15k is a false offer, but if the person shows up on a plane, I'd say money wasn't a barrier.

  • I think nick's purchase was in that range too? although he and adam could speak better to that.

I wouldn't be so dismissive of it.   It could be someone figuring that at the rate at which this title is going up, better to overpay for this one than to have to pay even more when the next one shows up in two years.

The only question is who.   At these kinds of bucks there's only so many people it could be.   I can definitely think of 3 or 4 people it could be so there's a chance this could be legit IMO.   I'm sure we'll find out sooner or later anyways.

  • Bronty, it could be someone unknown. Udisi's gold cart was sold to an unknown collector. NA is merely a small representation of the Nintendo collectors worldwide.
  • Agreed, I just emailed the seller and she/he said the same thing about the $15,000 offer and selling it to them to avoid the headache.
  • Wow... 15 G's is a lot of money... Like a stupid amount of money for something like this. If you consider we know a cart is worth about $1,700, a manual is worth $1,500, that puts the box at being worth almost 12,000
  • I think it's pretty obvious she is lying about th 15k offer. And if someone actually did tell her they were going to do fly out and bring her 15k to pick it up in person, I would be pretty skeptical of that too. Could be someone trying to mess with her.

Right, but even 10K would have been more than enough to secure it -- why pay out an extra 5 G's?

  • 10K might not have been enough. Raregamergirl and Braveheart would have battled it out at at LEAST $9000. Imagine if I needed it too....or what about happycstar? I mean, hard to say in this instance.
  • I don't understand how this games CIB is worth more than $4000-5000 tops. About 15 carts have shown up this year allready and when a manual finally showed up for $1500, there was no interest whatsoever except by NGD who was the only bidder, Very dissapointing if you ask me. So that makes the box worth about $5000-10,000 now lol?

I bet if Bronty were to auction his sealed one off at Christie's it would pull at least 100K given the circumstances.
  • I still say that after a few months, once he/she thinks the heat has died down, this copy will pop up for sale again.

The story behind this sale positively reeks of bullshit.
  • 10K is reasonable for this, IMO. yes, cart is 1500, manual is 1500, and YESSSSSSSSSS, that makes the box 7000!

but i agree with aaron. give it a few months, unless someone makes a real side offer to them
  • I HIGHLY doubt we will see this sell on E-bay,It will be sold in a side deal for sure.It would be nice to see a CIB SE auction actually make it until the end,So we can have a solid dollar value to go on.But I don't see that happening any time soon.
  • There have not been 15 carts showing up this year. I know of a few, but 15 is an exaggeration for NTSC.

What makes the box worth this much? There's less of this box known to exist than gold NWCs. THat's why 10K is not a bad estimate for this.

This justification of what something is worth only works if it is common. Something like this will always sell higher in private deals only, yes, and it is how we figure out what something is worth for rarer over the top items.

I find it funny that everyone always goes by what eBay final prices are, but those range so dramatically that it is ludicrous to think that something like this would not be drastically affected.

You have people paying $500-2000 for a shrinkwrap of NES games where tens of thousands were produced, but something less than 10 people are known to have a box for and the price is questioned?

NES4ever, by rule, the box for ANY game is worth infinitely more for any higher end rare game. You think a boxed Music Machine should only go for $1500 because the manual and game combined go for $300? 10x the amount is the norm for something like this. Just like the reasoning as to why people spent asinine amounts of money for shrinkwrapped copies of Zelda and Metroid, etc, is the same reasoning as to why the box for SE would go this high.

Why is it not worth only $4000-5000? You think antofarabia was the only person who would have purchased the game for that price CIB? You probably could have lined people up at 4K, that's how you know it's worth considerably more.

  • Well said Jason... I know I woulda bought it for $4,000. Hell even the $6,500 or whatever it was I woulda bought it for a double. These will only go up in price and I couldn't agree more with what Wilson said above.
  • DreamTR: Why don't you place your box on ebay for $10,000 BIN and we will see if it sells or not image

According to this thread, it will.

  • nes4ever: And then I won't have a box myself =P

lol, I did not think you could come up with a comeback on that one.

Ok, I surrender. It's worth what you say.

  • And props to NGD, $1500 will be a steal in the future for a manual. That is what I was trying to say. After all, you do need all 3 components to complete the game and $1500 each is not bad at all for 2 of them. Now the omega waits for him =P
  • i will buy it all day for $4k. for $7k, i will still take it! even in the condition it was in. beggars cant be choosers!

i got the manual, but i dont ever intend to acquire the box. but for that price, i couldnt pass it up!
  • plus, the manual and cart were mint as mint can be! my manual is probably the worst condition SE manual around (no rips or tears, but still, not in great condition), but do i care? no, cuz guess what... i have a SE manual! image
