  • With all due respect, the only 3 people on this thread that think 10K is reasonable are the 3 people on this site that actually own one. It's human nature for us to want our own stuff to be more valuable than it is. Look at Mah-jong -- I bet if I put a 10K BIN, people would laugh, despite it being the *only* CIB copy known to exist image

Thanks.  I have to agree.  With the price this "seems" to be warranting, my maual pick for 1500 my be my purchasea of the year, lol.  i really doubt the 15k offer is real, or will ever go through.  I have been wrong many times before though, so nothing would really surprise me anymore.

hehe, interesting point.   but where I'm coming at it from is I don't think the seller is lying necessarily.  maybe the potential buyer is.  that could be.

the mahjong thing I think is apples and oranges because its a different country code, less demand, etc.     I mean my canadian sealed black boxes are 10x rarer than the US ones but I can't say they are more valuable at this point in time.

as for 10k being reasonable on SE - I've just stopped being surprised.   I mean its getting to the point where the box appears to be worth more than what I paid for my entire copy just two years ago?   did we think we'd be talking about 10k completes in two years back then?

I don't think the "reasonable" yardstick is in $x or $y so much as "whats the most someone in the current collector pool could afford to pay to snatch it away from everyone else".   After all anything more than five bucks is unreasonable in the inherent value sense.      And in the collector sense for something like that its just who can offer more money than anyone else.     And there are more collectors with deep pockets these days.

  • Dain, I disagree. The market and hype for that game has been driven up, and you yourself, who probably has paid higher than normal values for games at one time or another, severely undervalued this game when you thought it was worth less than $2500 CIB a few months ago.

I have to agree that yes, people want their games to be "worth" more, but people on this site pay astronomical amounts of money for games that are clearly NOT worth as much, but because the site "educates" people and such, creating a larger community of NES gamers, people jump the gun and overpay.

With the line of people wanting a CIB copy, it's not going to go down anytime soon. It will take 10K each for the next two that pop up, after that, probably a more modest level of $6500 or so.

    Supply and demand.

And about that MahJong comment.....apples to oranges in comparision. How about my prototype carts? 1-3 exist of each by nature? I should be a millionaire based on the rarity of those, but I know better.
  • bronty: your sealed purchase was more like 4 years ago i believe

dreamtr: i agree with what you said except the $2500 mark you threw out there. the cart has been going for 1200+ for over a year, and the value of a manual has been 1000+ for over a year as well. personally, i would put the value of the box at around 3-4k, so your 6500 level would be a good guess of what i would be willing to pay for it IF the bigger name collectors already had one. however, simply for resale value, if they didnt have one, i would be willing to spend more on it just to pass it along to them.

dain: sorry, but i have to agree with bronty and dreamtr about the mahjong. i know erik would pay a lot for your copy, but i know he wouldnt pay anywhere close to what he did for his cib SE. the demand for SE is crazy high, and right now, the supply is rather low. the supply is much lower for protos and for the garage cart and for your mah jong, but the demand just isnt there to justify a high price tag!
  • does anyone have a factory sealed stadium events?

if so post a pic image
  • bronty has the only sealed copy known to exist, purchased on the bay a few years ago for somewhere around $3000 or less IIRC. i also remember a sealed myriad popping up around that time that sold for around $700-800... damnnnnnnnnnnn i want them! haha
  • srh201: That was Dain that brought up the $2500 price point to me last year for a CIB one. I was just mentioning it. I was thinking about $5000-6000 already at that point. Demand is just higher now for the next two, and the seller will reap the rewards.

3050.  I bought that myriad as well; 710.
  • I brought up Mah-jong because it was an officially-released, licensed title, unlike Myriad and unreleased protos (no one cares about Myriad or protos, so them's more oranges! image
  • I think Bronty buying that sealed SE was one of the first threads I read after I found the forums (this was on DP that I read it). I remember most of them said he was crazy, and I just wished I could get something like that.

aw shucks.   strangely enough I got more flak for the myriad purchase than the SE one.
  • I still agree with Wilson and I see his logic in the next 2 CIB SE's (If there are 2) being sold higher... however if it takes years for 2 legit CIB SE's to sell then the price drop after the next 2 could be moot point as it will be driven up higher due to the wait time involved.
As for you Dain, go ahead and throw up your Mah Jong CIB... PLEASE do it do it... but how about bid though with $1 start price, not $10K BIN! image

Heya, Erik...you forgot the "no reserve" part of it image .

  • all I can say it must be nice to just have 10 thousand lying around to spend on cardboard. Ive pretty much quit collecting everything but wii., I just think prices have gotton to a idiotic level recently and ill be happy playing what I got.

yea for real, thats a lot of change to spend on a nintendo game. and whos to say the market will even hold its value years down the road, the way everythings going now im surprised at some of the crazy low prices rarer nes stuff has been selling for. im happy i sold off my high end cibs a long time ago, because almost all of them are going for less now than what i sold em for.  and its only been like 8 months lol
  • what "crazy low" prices are we talking about?

you and I are like opposite sides of the same broken record image I think things are still (relatively) cheap although getting less so

You beat me to it -- Mark, not sure how much you've been paying attention lately amigo, but not much that I can tell has gone for anything remotely resembling crazy low. Look at the grey NWC -- it's almost tripled in 7 months. The CIB Caltron and F2 I got from you, I'm pretty sure would sell for a decent amount more than what I paid for them.
  • damn bronty! i could have sworn that the sealed copy was well before my manual purchase, and i bought that in may of 06 IIRC. at that point, i just started a new job and moved and furnished my place, so i was at least 5k in debt. hell of a deal on the sealed SE in 06! holy shit... erik, where the hell were you on this one? haha
  • Heh... I know huh? I wasn't active on any forums back then... image Oh well would've only driven the price up on Dan who has helped my collection out a TON so it's all good!

yeah even at the time it felt like a major steal image

and erik thanks - although truth is I'm sure I would have just driven up the price on you instead of the other way around.   Plus I was really broke when that auction hit so it wouldn't even have been much of a fight.

  • ^^^ Huge surprise that her millionaire jet setter didn't show to drop the 15K.
  • hehe yeah I guess that proves it
