Going to try and make an Extreme Green n64

Ok, so I am determined to make an Extreme green n64 console. Nintendo made the extreme green controller, but never a matching console.

Technically, a n64 mold could be made and using the extreme green color plastic could be used, but that would be forging a Nintendo product, and I feel would cost a TON of money, and be illegal.

Here is my thought. I have a couple broken Jungle green controllers I can test with, but does anyone have any suggestions for decolorizing or lightening up the Jungle green plastic to the lightness of the Extreme green plastic?

I have also thought about using the Smoke Grey n64 since there's no real color to it rather than a tint.

I've thought about putting it under extreme light for a period of time (trying not to melt it) to kind of "sun fade" the Jungle Green plastic.

I've thought about using some harsh chemicals to try and strip the color from the Jungle Green plastic, but I wouldn't know what chemicals to use.

I've thought about using light to "sun fade" the Smoke grey controller till its completely clear and then trying to stain in the Extreme green color, or using chemicals like stated above to strip the color (again, wouldn't know what chemicals to use).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

This is a bad Pic

  • Diluted bleach?
  • Put it in the sun and forget it for several years. .... Or put it in a tanning bed :-)
  • I currently have the top half of a jungle green n64 controller soaking in bleach (not very diluted).

Wish I were a little more patient, and I would leave it out in the sun for several years

Didn't even think about tanning bed though. Sounds like a lot of time getting tanned and can you imagine the electricity bill Lol
  • I think this is cool. The best I think you could hope for would be to fade it, maybe by bleach? make it lighter and white ish, then die it yellow?

lol if they came after you id pay your legal fees I think your allright dude.
  • If you don't sell it, why would it be illegal? And who's to say they didn't make them that way? But still, I think that's a neat color change. I'd do it.
  • @quest - I appreciate it lol, but I'm sure it'd cost a pretty penny still

@3Gen - I think it's a sweet color, so I'm gonna go for it. Hopefully I don't destroy tooo many Jungle Green n64 controllers on the way lol
  • I've always wished Nintendo would have released an Extreme Green N64. Hell they should release a Extreme Green 3DS haha. It has to be my favorite color. I

Defiantly keep me posted if you figure out a way to make an "Extreme Green" n64 system - I def would like to make one as well
  • This seems like more trouble than it's worth.

    Oh well thats the spirit!!

  • Going to be a hard transformation. With the translucent contollers there is still color in the plastic which will be hard to wash out. Automotive products may be an idea to look into. Good luck none the less.
  • I got the atomic green controller as a pack in with my N64 in '98, and I've always wondered why they did jungle green consoles, but not atomic green. I'm extremely (no pun intended) interested in how this turns out.
  • if you can figure out how to make it i will buy one! get someone to make a custom box for it too and i will drool for that more
  • I too am interested in how this turns out Lol..

If I do figure this thing out, I am planning on getting a custom box made. Gotta figure it out first though :/
  • if all else fails you need to get controllers. best this at that point is to make a mold for the expansion cover and the 2 shell halves then weigh all the plastic. say the console weighs 200 grams and say controllers weigh 100 each then u need 2 controllers per console. Im sure trying to buy defetive ones might help but ya i SOOOOO want one
  • No matter what you do youll never be able to match the exact color by bleaching or attempting to lighten the plastic. It will most likely turn bluish in color with bleach and not the desired yellowish-green.

Ur best bet is finding whatever system is the closest to being clear already, bleach that til its perfectly clear and then take it to a custom automotive painter or airbrusher who can spray the system with the matching color.
