Old Nintendo Neon Sign

My cousin worked for Nintendo in the early days, and gave me this sign when I was a kid. I've had it for nearly 20 years now, and was curious if anyone knew what it was worth. I've found a million neon signs out there, but can't seem to find one just like this. I'm probably not interested in selling, because it does hold some serious sentimental value.... But I'm still curious!

My father an I have collected neon signs before.  If this is a 20 yr old one, its from the video game craze years, it's worth a lot more than the normal ones you see random people selling on ebay.  Realize there are high and low sellers in this world.  That sign looks pretty flawless.  I am not saying I know everything about nintendo, but with the right time of listing and the current fluctuations i nthe game market it theoretically could happen. also I said up to a grand, not over a grand, I just left a large scale open to possibility.

Also, you cannot put a cheap price tag on sentimental value, this guy clearly wants to show us his sign and see what we think.  Regardless of what numeric value we state it's worth, it will always be worth more to him anyways..

So in answer to your question, yes.. "seriously"

  • It's worth about $300-$400.
  • Thanks for the replies, all. I can guarantee it at least 19 years old, as I got it in 1994. Other than that there is no sign of where it came from, or any identifying marks or numbers on the sign itself. I know my cousin worked for NOA for a brief period of time, so I would assume (and have for two decades) that it came from the real company.

I'm not looking for any crazy high value, and certainly won't be offended or upset if it's worth 20 bucks. It hung in my room as a kid, made it through four years in a college dorm, and survived the purging of "guy stuff" when I got married (RIP Budweiser sign and cornhole boards). I think my kids will love it one day while they are "ironically" playing SNES.
  • If you go to this link, there is a link inside with a "Nintendo Neon Sign" auction link from about a year and a half ago, one auction going unsold for $400 shipped and the next auction going unsold for $325 shipped.

Well done! That's by far the closest thing I've seen yet. The (R) symbol is in a different place, which is rather weird. But still, cool to see another one.

  • It's an official Nintendo sign. Model no. NES M35N: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/106/nesm35nrr5.jpg. $300-$400 range is a good estimate.

The OP is asking what the sign is worth and you chyme in with 200-1000. If you have no idea, then say you dont know or even better dont post..Let someone that knows, answer. If your looking to up your post count do it in the Joel thread or the welcome area.
  • Ok, first of all, I really do not care about post counts. the sign caught my eye and I stated my thoughts. I don't see any reason why bashing my posts are any less "thread upping" than mine. I am honestly just responding to something that caught my attention. And to say I am wrong isn't an accurate statement. I am answering about a unique piece of memorabilia in a vauge market with the Nintendo trends changing constantly. I know an ambitious collector that "had to have" all original merchandise. He'd buy it for considerably more than $200, but like I said before you'd have to have proof of originality.

I am not looking to up any posts, I really don't care about virtual "status" or "classes" on forums, I joined this forum for many reasons, but having the post was not one of them.

Oh and just because I am a newer member here does not invalidate my credibility at all. Actually to be quite honest, I have not only ran some of my own gaming businesses, but I have been actively involved in a number of different areas in the industry now and in the past. Regardless, assuming I just blatantly responded without any knowledge is insulting..

My apologies to the original poster of this thread, guitaristafroboy, for actively replying and taking this further, I just felt the previous post regarding what I said was unnecessary. As for your sign. Low end without proof a few hundred (few being 200-300 range without proof of originality), and high end could see quite a bit more.

Does your cousin still have ties to Nintendo? Does he have any way of proving, or do you have some sort of document or hand out that's dated from the time period you specified?
  • Bumping this old thread because Ive got a chance at purchasing an identical sign. Whats the going rate these days so I can make an appropriate offer? Didnt see any sold signage on ebay in recent sales to help me out. Any insight appreciated.
  • Nobody has any info on this sign? Or just signs in general. Im not well versed on signage
