Bootleg cart? EVO: Search for Eden

Hey everyone, I've yet to post an introductory message and that's my bad, but I will definitely get to it.

Anyway, I saw a listing on eBay for EVO and jumped on it, stupidly forgetting to check the seller's feedback first. To my credit, it was at 99% so I didn't think it was completely necessary.

Well, after I purchased the item I took a look and noticed he has, on two occasions, sold bootleg games passed off as legit. So as soon as I got my cart, I opened it up and now I need an opinion if it is, in fact, a fake or did I dodge a bullet here?

  • I'm not an expert but I'd be surprised if that board is legit, I hope I'm wrong
  • Sorry to say man, thats a bootleg
  • I was the thinking the exact same thing. Extra emphasis on the "I'm not an expert" part though.
  • I figured as much, but as you can understand I was really clutching to a shred of hope. I did, however, open up a Breath of Fire II cartridge to compare and there are very subtle differences, but otherwise look relatively the same. What are some concrete ways to tell that a cart is a bootleg?
  • That bottom-right chip is really odd, never seen it on a legit board before, take a pic of the back side of the board to see if it was hand-soldered.
  • I've updated the post with a picture of the other side of the board.

Contrary to how it appears from this incident, I'm no schmuck when it comes to collecting games but this is a hell of a forgery. The label and cart both feel like any other game.
  • Reproduction 100%, that extra board is the one ALL repro uys use now, nothing more needed in any way.
  • Just for my own knowledge as well as anyone else who is uninformed, which extra board are you referring to?
  • Uhh...the only one on the board that is sitting on a raised extra board? Nintendo never used anything but DIP chips (Like other chips) when used, so if the program ROM isn't one on a game with other DIP chips, it's automatically fake. But yeah, that was made recently. File a claim and get that POS returned. And post his ebay name for the HoS.
  • Thanks a lot for the help, everyone.

I guess my search for EVO continues...
  • Sorry dude, thats a bootleg

    Legit board looks like this

  • The lable gave it away
  • That's a repro board.

Label could've been a replacement, you can't just go by that.
  • Still I wouldn't buy a cart with a replaced label and no pic of the board. too much risk.
  • That's a bootleg bro!I hope you haven't left feedback for the ebay seller yet!Because I'd leave negtive feedback for the seller!
  • Contact the guy about a refund. That is sooooo fake.
  • Yeah, I contacted him right away and I've been refunded.

  • How can you tell the label is fake piko? The board is clearly fake but I don't notice any difference in the label except for maybe being slightly off center

piko is banned so he's not going to answer.

the cut on the label isn't perfect and there's a general fuzziness to the various graphics. the nintendo logo in the top left is pretty noticeable even in a photo.

  • Also the code in the bottom left is the wrong font altogether.
  • Cool thanks for the response. I just got a copy of evo on ebay and the board is legit but labels are sometimes hard to tell.
