PS2 games that can do 720p?

I recently got a component cable for my ps2 and I heard there were a few titles that could do 720p but I can't seem to find any list of games that can. Any help here? I know Gran Turismo 4 is able to do 1080i and I assume it's the only game that can?

  • Does PS2 even do 720p? I'm not sure, this seems to say no.

  • I could be wrong but I thought that there were a few games that could do better than 480p? Maybe I'm not remembering correctly.
  • According to that list, some games can do 1080i though. I'm gonna guess some would be able to do better than 480p. I could also be wrong though.
  • Some Xbox games will do 720p as stated on the back of the game case. As far as I know, all ps2 games are 480p, cause I always wondered why they made a RGB cable for it. As far as I'm aware, the only way to achieve the 720p and up resolutions is GS Mode Selector for modded PS2s. Games like GT4 and Tourist Trophy can display 1080i through cables, GS Mode and progressive scan, but the native is still 480p.

a lil bit of info here.

*edit....PS2 is gonna look it's best on 480p anyhow.  You probably won't like the results should you go through all that to get a higher resoulution.
  • I'm pretty sure Gran Turismo 4 can, but maybe that's just 480p.
  • Some games can, some can't. I play some games and the sound still works, but the picture looses signal.

I'm still trying to find a good backwards compatible PS3... it'll upscale just about anything.
  • I know for 100% fact that PS2 can output 1080i, not sure if any games use it though.
  • I remember running Gran Turismo 3 & Tourist Trophy in 1080i.

It was done through software and probably upscaled from 560p or something.

I used to like the component output on the PS2.

Tekken 5, Jak (s), Ratchet(s), ATV, God of War 1&2 all looked nice in progressive scan (480p).
