SNES mini and Castlevania 4

Ok, so I read somewhere the SNES mini had problems playing the original style SNES games.

I've tried to boot it up my Castlevania 4 on my MINI countless times and all I saw was a black screen.  Dracula X plays just fine, and everything else I own for that matter, plays right away no problem.

Well, I bought a cheap original SNES in the good bin section for 10 shipped, pluged the game in, same thing black screen.    But then, I turned it back on waited just a few seconds, and the game boots.

So I pull out my mini, put Castlevania 4 in it, turn it on, wait almost 8 seconds I swear and the game finally boots!

I guess I never grew up playing SNES, I had a genny, and every SNES game I've played so far turns on right away, is this something unique with CV4?  Why the hell would it take so long to boot?

And also it "boots" a bit faster on the older style SNES, the one I have is beat to hell, painted black, and has things rattling inside it.  Makes no sense to me.

Comments

  • I guess next time I will just turn it on, and go make myself a sandwich.
  • Never had this issue with my snes mini and cv4. Did you test it on a regular snes?

    Yep

  • Oddly enough I also took it in to a used game store in the area, all they had was one of those cheap clone systems, and it booted almost instantly I believe.
  • Mortal Kombat II has always taken a few seconds longer than everything else for me. Not sure if it's my copy or the game itself though.
  • I've experienced this with Castlevania IV before. It takes a few seconds before the Konami logo appears.
  • When I was testing all of my SNES games, I noticed that there's a pretty wide variance on "load times". A couple games take even longer than CV4 do! Interesting to know that it might be affected by which type of SNES it's played on.
